Enrollment - Parkdale Private SchoolAnd Daycare

Enrollment

Our programs include children ages 6 weeks through twelve years. Children may be enrolled any time during the year if we have openings available.

We are a non-denominational school and do not discriminate because of race, sex, color, or national origin. We require an interview with the parent and child prior to enrollment. At this time the necessary forms can be completed, with arrangements made for the child to enter our program. Registration is non-refundable.

THE PHILOSOPHY

Our programs are designed for the child, with personal well being our prime concern. We promote physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth in a safe, structured learning environment. We feel that mutual respect, knowledge of reasonable limitations and freedom within these limits are the factors that will maintain the high standards we strive to attain. Our goal is to guide your child and offer the experiences that will help develop the child into a confident, competent adult. Equally important is our goal to meet the child’s creative needs and talents through art, music, dance, language development, and computer experiences. Personal abilities, creativity and self-expectations become almost unlimited as a child grows and develops a “positive self image”

PROGRAMS

Infants & toddlers – During this crucial time children develop the motor skills that will create paths for all future learning. The program includes a low ratio of children-to-teacher to ensure that each child is given that special attention needed for secure growth.

Preschool – Attitudes and social patterns are formed between the years of one and six, leaving permanent impressions. Interesting, varied, and stimulating play materials, music, finger plays, stories, arts and crafts, computer experiences, practical life exercises and social contact with other children help our young children grow in confidence and self esteem. Our teachers guide the children in a prepared environment.

Daycare – Our daycare program is an extension of our basic philosophy, with the added opportunity of a personal relationship in an extended family situation. Daycare includes the educational program, lunch, snacks, and before and after school care.

Before & After School Care – Transportation is available for those children attending Suburban, Granby, and Mary Calcott Elementary Schools. No transportation is provided to and from home. During the holidays or non-school days for the school-aged child, there is an additional fee per day. This fee includes the child’s lunch and snacks.

POLICIES

Illness – When your child has any symptoms, such as elevated temperature, diarrhea, or vomiting, please make arrangements to keep your child out of school. Children who become ill while attending school must be picked up as soon as notified. Children with a fever of more than 101.5º cannot return for 24 hours.

Medical forms – All children must be adequately immunized before enrollment. We must have a medical form completed and signed by a physician within one month of enrollment.

Contagious Illnesses – Parents are notified by signs, posted outside each building office. It is now required that parents inform the school if a family member becomes ill with a contagious illness.

Field Trips – The children four and older will be taken on occasional field trips as planned by teachers. A general permission slip is part of our enrollment packet. You will be notified in advance about each trip. Parents are encouraged to participate.

Inclement Weather – The varied programs are seldom closed due to weather. Regular education classes are suspended when Norfolk Public Schools cancel. Other programs remain open, if possible.

Discipline Policy – Playground and classroom rules are posted. Teachers will instruct children in the meaning of rules. Re-direction and positive reinforcement are our main discipline methods. The child may also talk with the office staff. No physical punishment is tolerated, and time-out is used only as a last resort in cases where the child/children’s safety is at risk.

Summer Activities – The summer activity fee is used to cover additional activities you child will participate in during the summer months. The one-time activity fee is paid in addition to the regular monthly tuition. School-aged children are allowed to carry a lunch.

Hours & School Calendar – Parkdale is open Monday through Friday, 6:15am-6:00pm. Custodial parents may visit any time during these hours. The academic year begins the first Tuesday after Labor Day and ends in June. Parkdale Holidays include Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Day, New Years Day, President’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and a floater holiday. Holidays falling on a weekend will be observed either Friday or Monday. Advance notice is given for special no-school days with Norfolk Public Schools. During special school closings Parkdale’s daycare program and extended before & after school program will usually be available.

Enrollment Forms – The completed enrollment forms, birth certificate, physical and immunization record are required prior to admission. The office should be notified in writing of changes (phone, address, authorized child pick-up persons). Children must be picked up by closing time and late fees are assessed; consistent failure to pick up on time may result in dismissal.

USDA – We are currently participating in the USDA Child Care and Adult Food Program. Part of the enrollment packet explains the program. We currently offer breakfast, lunch, and snacks daily included in enrollment.
