LITTLE EXPLORERS NATURE

AND LEARNING CENTER

SUMMER PROGRAM

[pic]

Each week our staff will bring themes to life to guarantee that each week is fun, exciting and “naturally” different. Our goal is to enrich the lives of these young children with unique experiences that won’t soon be forgotten. The Little Explorers campus “comes alive” especially during the summer months. What a wonderful time to let children explore the outdoors, learn about growing plants and vegetables and interact and help care for the wonderful animals on our campus. We will enhance our program with professional guest speakers that help us learn even more in-depth facts about the natural world. Trained physical educational teachers and dance instructors will also be part of our weekly summer program.

SCHOOL AGE SUMMER PROGRAM THEMES FOR 2009

WEEK 1 JUNE 15 - JUNE 19

FORTS ALIVE

We will be creating our own nature center with a focal point of a huge teepee. All of our discoveries in and around our own nature center will be held in our very own “museum of nature” that all can enjoy. Nature can provide us the “brushes” we need to paint with and the “clay” to be sculpted while we learn how beautiful nature really is. We will start taking our own photos of nature that will later be displayed and sold at a fund raiser at the end of summer.

WEEK 2 JUNE 22 - JUNE 26

GARDENING

Our objective is getting children involved in growing veggies so they may start eating them more! How exciting to have our own garden and watching our supper grow!

WEEK 3 JUNE 29 - JULY 3

GETTING TO KNOW THE ANIMALS

There are so many wonderful things to learn about our wonderful animals. Some of the experiences that the children will get to see is the shearing of the llama’s, the trimming of the horse hoof’s and a dust bath for the chinchilla’s. Its fun to make new furry friends too!

WEEK 4 JULY 6 - JULY 10

GREAT NATURE ADVENTURE

Walking on our nature trails involves observing- thinking, stirring the imagination to understand nature that we see every day. Tracking animals and scavenger hunts are on our list of fun activities. We may even find buried treasure!

WEEK 5 JULY 13 - JULY 17

PLANTS ALIVE

We will walk the students through the life cycle of plants while searching for and identifying flowers and other plants. We will be using these flowers for centerpieces at the “Dinner and Show” at the end of the summer program.

WEEK 6 JULY 20 - JULY 24

DOWN ON THE FARM

Little Explorers gives the young a look at being a farmer by helping to care for our animals, maintaining the barn and playing in the hay. Making scarecrows for our gardens will end this exciting week.

WEEK 7 JULY 27 - JULY 31

CRAWLY CRITTERS

With our own bug catchers we can visit the world of insects. Let’s learn how important bugs are to all of us; how they come to life, how they live and change as they grow.

WEEK 8 AUG. 3 - AUG. 7

RECYCLING STORYBOOK ADVENTURES AND ALL ABOUT RECYCLING

Bring our adventures to camp through our favorite books. Join in the world of imagination! Recycling is very important to our future so “our future” will be making recycling bins for our rooms at little explorers.

WEEK 9 AUG. 10 - AUG. 14

MUSIC AND DANCE

It’s time to get our feet moving to the beat as we have fun putting together the music and dance steps for the big show at the end of the summer.

WEEK 10 AUG. 17 – 21

IT IS ALL ABOUT SUMMER

Making our tickets, programs, and menus for our special “Dinner and a Show” night and putting together those nature photos will help us reflect on what a great summer we have had!

WEEK 11 AUG. 24 - AUG. 28

SHOW TIME

We will learn how to create masterpiece dishes from the food we grew in our gardens from Chef Adam. Its also practice time for the big show. Then take your spot on stage and let’s showcase just some of the exciting things we learned over the summer!
