The Hazelwild Farm Educational Foundation is located on an ancestral homestead. Ms. A. Elizabeth Morrison established this non-profit foundation to continue her lifelong career of education and care for all children. The foundation and its board of directors are responsible for the operation of the Country Day School and Summer Camp program. Camp was established in 1949. Both of these programs have been in continuous operation since 1960. Children who attend any of our programs have an opportunity to observe farm life and to learn in an operating farm environment.

Hazelwild Summer Camp, licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services, offers a vast array of camp activities. The program is a highly respected children’s summer camp, bustling with character-building activities, fun, games and sports, many of which have been camper inspired.

Hazelwild Summer Camp Philosophy

“Farm-Family-Home-Atmosphere” is our slogan. Every Hazelwild camper is treated as an individual and is given the personal attention he or she deserves. The program does not place a great deal of emphasis on competition among campers; instead, it stresses individual progress and development. This practice promotes growth in self-reliance and self-confidence for campers to carry with them for a lifetime. Hazelwild strives to provide wholesome activities. Campers will not be allowed to bring from home cell phones, I-Pods, hand-held video games, CD players, or DVDs. Campers who cannot conform to this standard may be asked to leave for the day.
