Our goal for this summer is to have a Safe, Fun and Educational Summer and today we will discuss the following:Preparing for camp-Camp T-shirts- Summer Camp Shirts have already been ordered for Hazelwood location staff and children. Shirts are expected to arrive by May 23, 2016. Another order will be placed for the Dellwood location. ***See T-shirtCamp Environment-(May 31- August 12) We will have a Beach Theme:Reading Centers: Wading Pool/ Summer BooksPlayground- Beach Balls/Tents/Sand Sea shellsDramatic Play- Swim Wear beach bags, sunglasses, umbrellas, sandals, etcBlock Center- Build on a Beach TowelScience- Seashells***Supplies will be provided by May 25, 2016Lead Teachers must create a summer related bulletin board for their classroom.Lesson Plans- Preplanned Lesson Plans will be provided and they will be based on our weekly camp themes. (see curriculum themes)Outdoor Time:During the Summer months, Children are only to be taken outdoors when the temperature is below 90 degrees for 30 minutes at a time. On heat advisory days, children are to go outdoors after circle time for up to 1-hour. Be sure to take water, first aid kit and attendance clip board outdoors. The teachers may not apply sun screen on the children; the children must apply their own sun screen (with parents permission.)****Children and Staff must wash hands when returning into the building from outdoor play.** First aid kits must include: Band-Aids, wipes for cleaning wounds, first aid ointment, gloves, etc.Children to wear sunglasses and take water out outdoors to keep your bodies hydrated, On Hot days, have some sort of water play outdoors such as: water table, water spray bottles. Water must be changed in between classes.**School-age children need to bring bottled water daily for fieldtrips.Bee Stings, etcIn the event that you see a wasp or bee, remain calm and encourage the kids to remain calm. If a child is stung by a bee or a wasp, apply ice immediately and document the bee sting. **Have first aid certified staff member to assist you with the bee sting.Water Fun Days (see calendar)Only sprinklers or water pails are to be on the playground. On water fun days, the children may bring swim wear and a beach towel. Hang wet clothes on fence to dry, and then place in a tightly sealed bag before the children go home. Each child needs their own towel and swim wear. * ***Only on Water Fun Days, Teachers may bring shorts/ swimwear to the center.FieldtripsFieldtrip policies must be followed at all times and children must only go on fieldtrips that have been approved by the Director. ** See Fieldtrip Check list. Children must wear a camp shirt and/or a Learning Sticker on their shirt for identification. (Do not write a child’s name on their shirt sticker)The day before the fieldtrip, the Lead Teaches must review fieldtrip checklist.There needs to a written list of all the children on the van and a copy left at the center.A copy of enrollment forms must be carried on the van.Teachers must develop a buddy system and talk to the kids about stranger danger and staying with the group.Teachers must work together to adequately supervise the group and conduct frequent headcounts.Summer Fun Fridays June 3- Sunglasses Day, June 10- Ice Cream Day, June 17- Donuts with dads, June 24- Water Fun Day, July 1- Patriotic Parade (Closed Monday July 4), July 10-Flip Flop Day, July 17-Field Day Outdoor sports/games, July 24- Picnic in the Classroom, July 29-Talent Show/Show n’ tell, August 5- It’s a Luau!
