Rising 6th Graders, Stay Mathematically in Shape over the Summer! To help reduce “summer slump,” where students forget material from the previous school year, St. Benedict Catholic School has decided to continue the summer IXL work assignment for 5 – 8 grade. This summer work program is made up of 15 required skills that can be found on IXL, an additional set of 15 recommended skills, and a few bonus skills. The recommended skills, though not required, will give them an extra boost in being prepare for the upcoming school year, and the bonus skills are listed for students who want extra problem solving practice. It is highly recommended that students complete 1-2 skills per week over the course of the 10 week summer break rather than in one chunk at the beginning or end. The 15 required IXL assignments are meant to review material that the students have learned throughout the school year and help them maintain proficiency. Spacing out the review will better serve the student’s recollection of material. Goal: The goal for this assignment is to achieve a score of at least 80 in each of the fifteen required skills. This should take no longer than 10 – 20 minutes per skill. Scoring: The grade for this assignment is worth 45 points (3 points per skill). A score of 10 – 40 will receive 1 point. A score of 40 – 79 will receive 2 points. A score of 80 or higher will result in the full 3 points.General math websites to support summer retention: (watch short videos for any skill)a_lesson/archives/numbercross.shtml (math “crosswords”) (math games) (watch short videos and earn points for practicing skills) (more math games) (even more math games)Prefer workbooks?
