TCRWP Virtual Summer School Curriculum for

Reading Writing Phonics Available by Subscription

Heinemann is excited to announce that Lucy Calkins and her Teachers College Reading and Writing Project colleagues have developed a brand new summer school curriculum for students in rising grades 1?6. All of the lessons in each unit have been video recorded, in a manner resembling the 2020?21 Virtual Units of Study, to support in-person, remote, and hybrid teaching. Lucy Calkins and her TCRWP colleagues have incorporated research-based teaching methods, tools, and resources to provide students with intense tutoring as they engage with lively, literate communities.

The TCRWP Virtual Summer School Curriculum has been designed to provide students with a six-week sequence of engaging learning that, above all, supports their foundational skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, text structure, main idea, argument, and more. The modules that make up the grade-level curriculum are also available for individual purchase, allowing schools and districts the options they need to plan a customized sequence to fit specific timeframes and instructional needs.

Available by subscription for summer 2021, this flexible virtual curriculum offers:

Reading/phonics and writing units with all-new content for in-person, remote, or hybrid use Standards-based instruction, focused on foundational skills A turnkey resource for teachers, with student-facing videos, video support for teachers and

Resources At-a-Glance Turnkey with Flexible Options

As we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, it is enormously important that children are given a curriculum that supports joy and confidence while accelerating their growth. It is also important that teachers are given support as they may still be teaching in virtual, hybrid, or socially-distanced ways, as well as in new spaces, at new grade levels. Like the schoolyear Units of Study curriculum, these virtual resources are designed to help teachers learn as well as teach. This summer school curriculum is absolutely designed to help teachers learn the newest researched-based methods for teaching phonemic awareness, assessment-based decoding, vocabulary, knowledge generation, argument, and more. Teachers may use the student videos to teach directly or to guide their own teaching.

Implementation Options:

TCRWP Virtual Summer School Curriculum, Grade-Level Subscriptions, Rising Grade 1 ? Rising Grade 6 offer 6 weeks of daily instruction, 2 to 2.5 hours per day.

Individual Modules from the TCRWP Virtual Summer School Curriculum, available separately, allow districts the opportunity to create a customized curriculum.

Additional Modules offer important ways to extend learning.

Planning Guidelines:

Start by determining whether you will choose the suggested 6-week Grade-Level Curriculum or build your own customized curriculum.

If you will plan your own curriculum, review individual modules and plan your sequence, keeping in mind that each Reading/Phonics and Writing module offers 20?25 minilesson videos.

Be sure to consider the Additional Recommended Modules for both the TCRWP suggested sequence and the "build your own" option.

Note that if you select the Grade-Level TCRWP Virtual Summer School Curriculum, teachers will also need corresponding Trade Book Packs.

Please Note: We anticipate that the trade book packs will begin to ship on June 15th. If you need to receive books before the end of June, please refer to the Summer School Trade Book list to source the books directly from publishers.

Additional support for provisioning classrooms with recommended trade books can be found on the website.

(for details on the specific units that are included, see page 4 in this Overview) Student-facing minilesson videos (may also be used for teacher planning

and professional learning). Teacher videos offer guidance for instruction at the beginning of each unit. Parent/caregiver videos (one per unit) explain ways to support each child's

literacy development during summer school and across the whole summer. Downloadable resources provide support for teaching and learning.
