Executive Summary:
On a five point scale (5=high, 1=low), both undergraduate and graduate graduates rated NJIT highly except for helpfulness of financial aid advising services (undergraduate student mean =2.99 and graduate student mean=2.97). This decline was also evidenced in the Spring 2011 Student Satisfaction Survey where students reported a 34% satisfaction rate (mean=2.93) with financial aid services--a 12% decrease from 2010. For undergraduates, helpfulness of registration services declined from 3.36 to 3.24.
Concern for the individual reached its highest rating ever for undergraduate and graduate graduates. Undergraduates gave NJIT a very positive score of 3.31, up from the 2006 low of 3.06. Graduates also gave NJIT a very positive score of 3.41, up from the 2004 low of 3.15.
Compared to last year, undergraduate graduates reported confidently that NJIT prepared them well to enter the job market (the undergraduate student mean jumped up from 3.30 to 3.83). Our undergraduate graduates’ full-time employment rate (32.3%) is up almost a percent from last year. The graduating graduate students saw remarkable improvement in their full-time employment rate (43.1%). It rose 6.5% from last year’s rate (36.6%). Seven percent more of graduating graduates (42%) reported that their job was new compared to the 2010 survey (35%). See table on page 4 and 12.
When compared to 2009, the mean for improved ability to make more money increased for graduating undergraduate students (3.48 to 3.60) and graduate students (3.24 to 3.37). However, compared to 2008, the mean for meeting the educational goal of prepare for a career is still down for graduating undergraduate students (3.68 to 3.57) and graduate students (3.65 to 3.53). See charts on page 2 and 10.
More undergraduates are planning to go to graduate school (72.5%), this reflects a 3% increase from last year (69.5%). Sixty-one percent planned on enrolling as fulltime students. See charts on pages 6 and 7.
Seventy-three percent of undergraduate graduates intend to pursue a Master’s degree. Fifteen percent intend to seek a M.B.A. and 7% intend to seek other professional degrees (M.D., J.D., etc.). Forty-two percent of graduating undergraduate students plan on attending a graduate program in engineering. Twenty percent intend on enrolling in a management/finance/accounting program which reflects of a 3% increase from last year (17%). See chart on page 8.
