Director of Youth and Children’s ministriesJOB DESCRIPTIONChildren’s Ministries– Grades K-5 (currently K4J)organize and present bible/ministry lessons for the children at a relatable level for their age group incorporate games/crafts and other activities related to the topic of the lesson, organize and recruit volunteers to assist in activities, Keep lesson plans available in the event of sickness or emergencykeep records of attendance of the children Keep records of adult volunteers and all their identifying information, and confirm that all volunteers have followed safe sanctuary protocol and are properly trained Manage and develop a separate budget for the Children’s Ministry program. Keep records of expenses and be able to submit them when asked by Church Council or finance committee.Children’s related Job Duties:Lead, plan, and organize seasonal events for children and their families:Easter Egg hunt, Trunk or treat and Breakfast with Santa Organize and plan the event and assign tasks to the Nurture Committee Encourage the Youth program to assist in the event and find age appropriate tasks for them to do. For example: run games, face paint, hide eggs, price items at a yard sale and other tasks Lead the Sunday School Superintendent. Coordinate with the Sunday School teachers to choose the materials and curriculum in which each Sunday School class will use. Keep records of each Sunday School volunteer’s identifying information and confirm that all volunteers have followed safe sanctuary protocol and are properly trained. Support Sunday School Superintendent with finding volunteers to lead Sunday School classes. If necessary, teach a class.Lead, plan, and organize VBS (vacation bible school). Delegate responsibilities to a team of volunteers. Choose and order Curriculum for the VBS summer program.Calendar appropriate dates for the VBS summer program that does not disturb current church calendar events.Coordinate with the Evangelism committee to procure advertising for VBS.If necessary, organize/shoot/disseminate video and other photos that help promote VBS.Update all social media websites to promote VBS.Obtain any physical materials needed for any games, crafts, skits anize and keep records of all registrations. During VBS have those registrations available if an emergency arises with a anize and keep records of all media waivers. Make sure when posting onto social media and other outlets that a proper media waiver has been done with the child’s permission from their parents/guardian.Youth Ministries – Grades 6-12 (currently Oasis)organize and present bible/ministry lessons for the children at a relatable level for their age group organize opportunities for community service for the youth in both the community and Salem UMC, Lead and organize fundraising events with the youth to help raise funding for their extra activities (movies, skiing, swimming, camping etc), Encourage the youth to fund their own activities through planned and executed fundraisers. For example, car washes, church suppers etc.Keep lesson plans available in the event of sickness or emergencyIncrease membership of Oasis by encouraging events that are not limited to: conferences/camps/retreats/trips, mission/outreach work, fundraising, etc.Encourage our youth to explore other youth groups (Methodist or other) through events in the community or Salem hosted events to build comradery amongst similarly aged teens. keep records of attendance of the children and Keep records of adult volunteers and all their identifying information, and confirm that all volunteers have followed safe sanctuary protocol and are properly trained, Manage and develop a separate budget for the Oasis program. They are to participate and assist when needed during pancake suppers, bingo nights, yard sales and other events.Lead fellowship activities both within Salem UMC and throughout conference and council opportunities within the Methodist church.Connect, encourage and participate in Sound District and NCCUMC conference youth ministry.Lead the youth during the yard sale event, that is hosted by the Nurture committee. That event is specifically to raise money for campership. Therefore, the youth are required to help tag, organize, sell, help customers, count money, set up and clean up the event.Support any youth member that has a designated position on a committee at Salem UMC. Youth Liaison positions are typically a part of the SPRC committee, church council and the nurture committee.Develop small group studies with youth (HS Boys, HS Girls, MS Boys, MS Girls) with the help of volunteers.Develop and maintain and online social media presence to help build up and promote Salem UMC and its youth ministries. Worship Service duties:Director of Youth and Children’s ministries is expected to attend each Sunday to direct their organizations. The Director of Youth and children’s ministries will comply with the Employment contracts as to the amount of Sundays that are permitted to be missed. In their absence, the Director of Youth and Children’s ministries will coordinate a replacement that has been trained and provide them with all of the materials necessary to perform the job duties. Director of Youth and Children’s ministries will provide notice to both the Salem UMC Pastor and the head of the SPRC committee of their absence, unless and emergent situation.Director of Youth and Children’s ministries is expected to have a full presence within and outside the church during “special times” such as, but not limited to: Christmas Eve, Christmas, Easter, Special Sundays such as Graduation and promotion Sunday, 5th Service, Homecoming etc.Children’s Church – Choose and order materials needed to provide the children’s church lesson.Keep records of adult volunteers and all their identifying information and confirm that all volunteers have followed safe sanctuary protocol and are properly trained. Organize and acquire volunteers to help teach the lessons that are provided. Director MUST teach during at least one service each Sunday.Deliver children’s messages at Sunday service. Be physically present and present the children’s message each week during each church service.Acquire volunteers for occasionally delivering the message if the Director of Youth and Children’s ministries is unavailable or the lesson/message calls for a different person to help present it.Graduation Sunday – Coordinating in May with the Graduation from Colleges and High SchoolsObtain the names and biographies from each graduateCreate promotional materials needed during the service – for example, videos, slide shows, bulletin inserts regarding each graduateCoordinate luncheon or other special recognition for the graduates with the appropriate church committeeBe physically present to present the recognition to the graduates Coordinate with the appropriate committee to select and order the graduation giftPromotional Sunday- Coordinating in August for the promotion of all other youth and children that have advanced to the next grade. Special recognition for those that are moving onto the next Sunday school class.Obtain the names and biographies from each StudentCreate promotional materials needed during the service – for example, videos, slide shows, bulletin inserts regarding each StudentBe physically present to present the recognition to the students Coordinate with the appropriate committee to select and order the promotions gift – i.e. 2nd grade, 5th grade, 8th grade5th Sunday – Coordinate the service requirements with the Pastor of Salem UMC. Incorporate the children/youth into the service where appropriate. Encourage youth and children to participate at appropriate times during the service or service set up.Train/educate the children and youth for the duties during the service. Administrative duties:Provide updated information to parents of both youth and children’s ministries as to the material being learned, opportunities available for the youth/children and upcoming events.Attend church councils, nurture committee and any other meetings as needed to support job functions. Build relationships with other community businesses and organizations.Create, develop, and maintain a database of volunteers and children involved in youth ministry. Database MUST include, all identifying information, current background checks and compliance with Safe Sanctuary protocols. Database must be accessible upon request of any Church Council anize and keep records of all media waivers. Make sure when posting onto social media and other outlets that a proper media waiver has been done with the child’s permission from their parents/guardian.The Salem UMC pastor will be the direct supervisor of this position. Therefore, the Director of Youth and Children’s ministries will be responsible for all additional duties assigned by the pastor and must assist Salem UMC Pastor in the needs of the church when necessary. ................
