Sunday School Teachers

Sunday School Teacher’s

Pledge to God

I, ________________________________, confess that I have been called by God to teach His Word through the power of the Holy Spirit in order to support the church in carrying out the Great Commission as given by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:18-20.

As stated in the Great Commandment presented by Jesus in Matthew 22:37-39, I believe that it is only through a loving, personal relationship with God that I will be able to serve meaningfully. In order to nurture this relationship, I promise to maintain regular Bible study and attend weekly Sunday Worship, except for special reasons.

In order to follow the second part of the Great Commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself,” I promise to

• Lead each student to Christ and to spiritual growth through teaching, personal counseling and prayers

• Maintain contact with the student’s parents, share with them the student’s progress and look for opportunity to share the gospel with them, keeping confidential any private and personal matters

• Maintain good relationships and unity of purpose with other teachers and staff

I believe in serving wholeheartedly as if working for the Lord, and not for man, as stated in Colossians 3:23. In order to teach effectively, I promise to

• Give adequate time to prepare and to make research for each lesson

• Attend all teachers’ meetings and training sessions in order to understand the plan of the Sunday School and to facilitate mutual support and encouragement

• Set a good example to my Sunday School students by leading a holy life, uttering wholesome speech and dressing decently

• Be careful to teach God’s word correctly and not to change curriculum or text books without the permission of the Sunday School Superintendent

• Monitor each student’s progress and bring up for discussion with the Superintendent when necessary

• Prepare the classroom before the opening session.

• Give advance notice to the Superintendent if I am unable to teach for that Sunday

I believe that since I am privileged, by God's grace, to have the opportunity to serve Him as a teacher of His people, I will do my utmost to keep this pledge. Thus, I will be able to experience the joy of Christian service and of being “God’s fellow worker” as recorded in 1 Corinthians 3:9. I will also be able to look forward to my eternal reward as stated in

2 Tim 4:7-8a.

Bible Verses (NIV):

Matt 28:18-20

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Matt 22:37-39

37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

Col 3:23

23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,

1 Cor 3:9

9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.

2 Tim 4:7-8

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
