LEGISLATION UPDATES:

Easter Seals Legislative Newsletter, February 22, 2006 - Bush 2007 Budget Cuts Most Disability Programs

Earlier this month, President Bush formally presented his budget for the fiscal year that begins October 1, 2006. This budget proposes to cut funding to the vast majority of federal programs of importance to people with disabilities and their families. On top of the cuts approved in the Deficit Reduction Act earlier this month, the President recommends additional cuts to Medicaid, shifting many costs onto the states. One proposal includes eliminating Medicaid payments for transportation and other costs for services to students with disabilities. View a chart showing how programs for children and adults with disabilities and their families fared in this budget and learn more about disability funding.
