Statement of Need/Program Overview
This webinar will be a lecture designed to impart a large amount of knowledge to participant supplemented with case studies to improve real time information about ARV use with pregnant women. In the US there are over six million pregnancies each year and pregnant women on average, take 3-5 prescriptions while pregnant. Women with preexisting conditions such as HIV may need to continue to take these medications during pregnancy and post-partum for breastfeeding. Providers need information regarding the use of prescriptions for women with HIV including: potential teratogenic effects and other short-and long-term adverse effects on fetuses or newborns including preterm birth, mutagenicity, and carcinogenicity, experience with use in pregnancy, drug-drug interactions, genotypic resistance testing and prior ART use, PK changes in pregnancy, potential maternal adverse effects, and comorbidities.
