Topic- What is the paper going to be about? Introduce the topic in a short sentence.

Thesis: A sentence with the subject and your opinion. This is the most important sentence in an essay; it informs the reader what the paper is going to be about and keeps the entire paper on track (no first person unless asked to do so).

Blueprint: Once you have established a thesis, map out your main points. Don’t elaborate, KISS= Keep it simple silly!

Body Paragraph: A middle paragraph in an essay. It develops points to support the thesis of the paper. There should be 2-3 body paragraphs.

Topic Sentence (TS): The first sentence in a body paragraph. This must have the topic and opinion for the paragraph. It does for a body paragraph what the thesis does for an essay.

Concrete Detail (CD): Specific details that support the thesis statement. Synonyms for CD include: facts, specifics, descriptions, illustrations, support, proof, evidence, etc.

Commentary (CM): Your opinion or comment about something: NOT concrete detail! Synonyms include: opinion, insight, interpretation, personal response, feelings and reflection.

Concluding Sentence (CS): The last sentence in a body paragraph. It is all commentary! It does not repeat key words and gives a finished feeling to the paragraph.
