ARGUMENTATIVE SYNTHESIS“Life in society requires consensus as an indispensable condition. But consensus, to be productive, requires that each individual contribute independently out of his experience and insight.”― Solomon E. Asch “Opinions and Social Pressure,” (CC 705) by social psychologist Solomon Asch, recounts aseries of experiments conducted at Rutgers University to discover how likely humans are tosurrender to peer pressure, even when such decisions contradict the evidence of their own senses.Investigate a phenomenon of pressure from peers that has made the headlines in the last tenyears, and collect at least three sources from the Stratton Taylor Library on it. Comparing thisexample to Asch’s experiments and conclusions, take a stand on whether or not the author’swork has bearing on the event you have researched.
