Availability of the Post Immediately

General Background

Refugees and asylum seekers in Syria shall abide by the national laws regulating the matters of legal stay, residency and other related legal requirements. The incumbent will work with the immigration authorities and other stakeholders to ensure that PoCs enjoy legal residency and access to legal services and justice in Damascus and other governorates.

|Duties and Responsibilities: |

|The attorney shall represent UNHCR in law in all matters related to the case of refugees and persons of concern to UNHCR for which the |

|attorney shall attend court hearing, liaise with the chief state attorney at the Attorney’s General’s Office, Ministry Of Justice and other |

|relevant entities. |

|The Attorney shall render fortnightly reports to UNHCR on the status of the cases and shall also render reports after every court hearing. |

|Representation of cases before courts and official departments should be authorized by the protection officer or the senior protection |

|officer or the senior protection officer and in consultation with the lawyer, Lega; representative are provided by the office if approval has|

|been initialed by designated officers in UNHCR. |

|The Attorney shall observe strict confidentially in respect of all information obtained as a result of their work for UNHCR. The Attorney may|

|not communicate at any time to any other person, Government, or authority external to UNHCR, any information known to him by reason of its |

|association with UNHCR which has not been made public except with the authority of UNHCR which has not been made public except with the |

|authorization of UNHCR, nor shall the attorney at any time use such information to private advantage. These obligations do not lapse upon |

|termination of this contract. |

Qualification Required:

Education: Certificates and/or Licenses

- Certificates and/or Licenses in Law

Experience: For G6 - 3 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 2 years relevant work experience with Bachelor or equivalent or higher

Languages: Knowledge of English and /or UN working language of the duty station if not English.
