Guidelines for Market Value Summary Report

Market Value Detail Report

The purpose of the Market Value Report is to compare University employees’ salaries to the market value of various positions. The University jobs are matched to market jobs that have similar qualifications and duties.

The detail report provides market data for each job title and incumbent in that position.

Note: The reports only include non-faculty, benefiting employees that are .5 FTE and above.

Job Information

Department Name and ID number is located in the top left hand corner.

The report is sorted first by job title and then by the employees’ amount of education and experience above the minimum qualifications of the job.

Job Code is the four digit number that is assigned to a job title. If the job code is larger than four digits it means that the job code has additional data for a specific department or specialty. For example, some Computer Professional job codes have additional information for the specific specialty such as a Webmaster, Database Administrator or a Systems Administrator.

Job Title is the title of the position.

Grade is the University’s salary grade for each position.

Some positions like Director and Associate Director have grade 00. This means the job has an open pay scale. The salaries are based directly on market data for the job.

Other positions such as Manager or Computer Professional are broad-banded (BB1). The salaries for these positions vary from $25,250 to $141,500 depending on the position area and how the position functions.

UU Salary and Job Data

The EE FTE is the employee’s actual FTE. A 1.0 FTE is a full time employee who works 40 hours a week.

Experience Above Min is the employee’s related education and experience beyond the University’s minimum requirements of the position.

Dept Avg Pay is the average of the employees’ pay in the department. The average is calculated at 1.0 FTE. For example, if an employee earns $20,000 at .50 FTE, the employee’s salary is annualized ($40,000) and averaged with the department’s salaries.

# Dept EEs is the total number of employees in the department that are in that job code.

# UU EEs is the total number of University employees in that job code.

Market Comparators

This section of the report compares the University’s positions with similar positions in the market. The market comparators include data from other comparable institutions, market survey data and local companies.

The three market comparators are: 25th percentile, Average and 75th percentile.

Note: If the market information column is blank, it means the position has not yet been matched with market data.

25th Percentile––25% of employees earn less than this salary level. This column identifies the UU salary at the 25th percentile in the UU pay range. This is then compared to the 25th percentile in the market. The difference between the UU and market 25th percentile is calculated.

Average––This column lists the average market salary and the average UU salary. The difference column lists the percentage difference between the UU average compared to the market average.

75th Percentile––75% of employees earn less than this salary level. This column identifies the UU salary at the 75th percentile in the UU pay range. This is then compared to the 75th percentile in the market. The difference between the UU and market 75th percentile is calculated.
