A few students will be going to Mrs. Kehl’s or Mr. Elmore’s room for small group reading instruction. Others will remain in my homeroom for reading instruction. This week my reading group will be reading our first story from our reading book called Boomtown. We will be studying new vocabulary words that connect with the story and our leveled readers. We will study realism and fantasy. We will have a skills quiz and vocabulary quiz on Wednesday. We will have our selection test on Friday. Students will bring their reading book home to share this story with you on Thursday night.

Klier’s Math-

A few students will be going to Mrs. Kehl’s or Mr. Elmore’s room for small group math instruction. Other will remain in my homeroom for math instruction. This week we will study number sequences and patterns as well as take a closer look at the number grid. We will review clocks, measurement, and place value.

This week we will study capitalization. Students will determine what words need to be capitalized in sentences such as names, holidays, special places, days of the week, months, etc. Spelling homework will be given on Monday and Tuesday. Spelling test will be given on Wednesday. Spelling words will always be located in your child’s agenda. New words for next week will be given on Thursday.

We will begin Social Studies this year with map skills.  Our focus this week will be identifying parts of the globe and the world map.  The children will become familiar with terms such as equator, prime meridian, hemispheres, continent, and ocean.  We will also be learning the names of the continents and oceans.

Rising Tide Aquatic Club

Rising Tide Aquatic Club Registration will be held on August 29th & 30th from 5-7 pm at Coshocton High School Natatorium. This is for individuals between the ages of 5 and 18 who are able to swim 25 meters without assistance. Expectations are: proficient freestyle stroke and ability to dive from the side of the pool. New swimmers must arrive at the pool prepared to swim for the coach. Additional info: cyrtswim.

• Please send in Boxtops for Education.

• Please send in Campbell’s Soup labels.

• Please send in any Sunny D labels.

• Please initial your child’s communication calendar.

• Please send a note with your child if dismissal plans change for your child. I must have a note if there is a change.

Welcome Back

We will be studying about scientists and how they perform their work.  We will be discussing the important aspects of a scientific experiment and looking at the scientific method.

AR

Read daily at home for at least fifteen minutes! ( Students received their new reading level on Friday. AR books were sent home on Friday with your child. Once your child is ready for an AR test, they can take the AR quiz on the computer at school. Reading AR will be daily homework.
