Funding Information

Applications for Student Finance 2021-22

Preparing to start your course can be an exciting time and knowing that there is money available before commencing your degree can help ease your transition into Higher Education. The aim of this guide is to explain the types of funding available.

GOVERNMENT SOURCES

The Government offers a range of student financial support for full-time students in Higher Education. This means that you can get financial help when you need it and you don’t have to pay back your loan until after you leave your course. You don’t need a confirmed place to apply for Student Finance; however we recommend you apply early for funding so that your application is processed before starting your course.

Student Finance England

All eligible, full-time students can get a Student Loan for fees of up to £9,250 a year to meet course fees. The money is paid directly to the university on your behalf and you only have to start repaying it once you have left the course and are earning *£21,000 a year. Northern Ireland

Student Finance Northern Ireland's online services are available at studentfinanceni.co.uk.

Wales

Student Finance Wales online services are available at studentfinancewales.co.uk.

Students can access Student Finance Wales dedicated enquiry service on 0300 200 4050.

Scotland

The Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) online services are available at . Students can contact the SAAS on 0300 555 0505.

European Union

Please note fee arrangements for EU students intending to start their degree in 2021-22 academic year are yet to be announced. EU students starting courses on or after 1 August 2021 will no longer be eligible for home free status or undergraduate financial support from Student Finance England unless you meet one of the following criteria:

- You are able to benefit from the citizens rights agreements

- You are an Irish National living in the UK or Republic of Ireland- benefits of Irish Nationals under the Common Travel arrangement will continue

Channel Islands and Isle of Man

Contact the education authority if you live in the Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey) or Isle of Man, visit for links to the appropriate websites.

Not taking out a Student Finance loan

If you do not want to take out a tuition fee loan then you can make arrangements with the College to pay the tuition fee directly. For further assistance with direct payments please contact Admissions@bcom.ac.uk or call 020 7345 6464.

NHS Bursaries

National Health Service bursaries are not available for osteopathic courses, instead funding is accessed through Student Finance.

Extra Help

Students with children or dependent adults can apply for additional financial assistance, for details on Childcare Grants, Parents Learning Allowance, Adults Dependants’ Grants, Child Tax Grants, Disability Allowance and more please visit Student Finance at .

Childcare Grants; full-time higher education students with children may be eligible for a Childcare Grant. The grant helps with childcare costs for children under 15, or under 17, if they have special educational needs, for further information visit

Parents Learning Allowance; extra financial help is available for parents to help pay for study material and travel costs, for further information visit .

Adults Dependants’ Grants; full-time students in higher education with an adult who depends on them financially can apply for an Adult Dependants’ Grant, for further information visit

Child Tax Grants; you could claim a Child Tax Credit for each child you’re responsible for. You get money for each child that qualifies and Child Tax Credit won’t affect your Child Benefit, for further information visit

Disability Allowance; you can apply for a Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) if you have a disability, including a long-term health condition, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, for further information visit

Funding for BCOM Students via University of Plymouth

When applying for financial assistance to study at BCOM the following information should assist you:

Qualification you expect to gain:  M.Ost

2021/22 M.Ost tuition fee home students eligible for funding: £9,250 pa.

▪ When applying for your student loan, please ensure that you use University of Plymouth’s Institution code P60 (see above). Students study at BCOM in London, however funding will come via University of Plymouth and the Student Loans Company.

▪ The Masters in Osteopathy degree course is an integrated or undergraduate masters course, whereby the first three years of the course are provided at an undergraduate level and the fourth year is provided at masters level.

▪ For funding purposes only BCOM is in a franchise relationship with University of Plymouth.

If you have already applied to student finance for another institution then you will need to do a ‘Change of Circumstances’ form through Student Finance, the SLC team will be able to assist you.

PRIVATE SOURCES

Some banks offer large loans to students studying towards professional qualifications, called Professional and Career Development Loans (P&CDL) this is a government-sponsored scheme that will cover your interest payments whilst you study.
