Supervising Producer
Atlanta, GA
Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) is hiring a Supervising Producer to work on one of its signature daily talk shows – On Second Thought, hosted by former NPR host Celeste Headlee. We're looking for someone who loves to dig into issues, find the human side of policy debates, and explore a range of topics - politics, environment, education, business, health care, and the arts. He/she will work to manage a smart team of producers and maintain the editorial voice and mission of the show. The right candidate should have a strong news judgment, combined with a desire to innovate and experiment. This person should be able to support the team and encourage collaboration and positive interactions. GPB is a cross-platform organization where all content producers are expected to contribute to radio, television and digital. We’re a highly collaborative organization that values new ideas.
Candidate Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four years journalism experience required; public radio experience ideal.
• Demonstrated ability to identify key developments and distill complex matters. High-level writing and editing skills, especially on the Web.
• Ability to work collaboratively, meet deadlines, juggle multiple tasks and multiple deadlines, and the ability to be nimble in a fast-growth, highly creative environment.
• Must be able to work varying shifts, to include seven days per week, weekends and holidays.
Job Duties
• Oversees and manages assignment editor and producers as well as manages time-off requests, host
calendar, etc.
• Gives feedback to guests and producers on regular basis.
• Attends radio and news meetings and collaborates coverage with other departments.
• Directs the show or assigns other producers to do so (including working with board operator to make
sure all tape is cued and of good sound quality, ensuring all equipment is working properly. May involve
production of sound quickly during live broadcasts)
• Maintains green room and supplies for guests.
• Handles complaints from listeners and guests
• Chooses bumper and break music and handles award submissions.
• Creates and maintains cohesive social media strategy and develops branded and recurring segments.
• Community engagement, as needed.
