The TEACH Grant program provides significant potential benefits ? potentially up to $4,000 per year up to a maximum of $16,000 for undergraduate study. Students may also receive this grant for graduate study. The program, however, also carries with it precise eligibility requirements and penalties if those requirements are not fulfilled. In order to be eligible to receive the TEACH Grant, students must:

be enrolled in a program of study designated as TEACH Grant-eligible, in which a student can receive teacher licensure in a subject-shortage area.

have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average in college (or high school if entering first year student) or score above the 75th percentile on a college admission test (the ACT or SAT). Grant recipients whose eligibility was based on the grade-point average must maintain a 3.25 GPA each semester in order to remain eligible.

File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually

After graduation, students must serve as a highly-qualified, full-time teacher in a high-need subject area for at least four years at a school serving low income students. To meet the obligation of the TEACH Grant program you must receive teacher licensure in one of the following academic subject areas which have been designated by the U.S. Department of Education as high-need and for which Muskingum University offers licensure:

It is important to be aware that students must fulfill both the subject area and low-income school criteria to meet the service requirement. Students who fail to complete the four-year teaching obligation or other stated program requirements of the program will have to repay the grant with interest, as the grant will be converted to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan.

If you are interested in receiving a TEACH Grant, please print and complete the form below and return it to Student Financial Services. We will use this information to make a final determination of your eligibility for the grant. If approved, you will then be required to complete a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve (ATS) and Counseling Session online. The ATS website is teach-ats.. The document will officially specify the conditions under which the grant is awarded and explain the teaching service requirements. It will also include an acknowledgment by you that if you do not meet the teaching service requirements you will be required to repay the grant as a loan. The TEACH Grant is available to students meeting the above eligibility requirements. The grant is renewable for up to four total years of undergraduate study. If the eligibility was based on the 3.25 college GPA, students must maintain a 3.25 GPA each semester in order to continue to receive the grant.

After graduation, students must fulfill the teaching requirements stated below. If they do not do so, the total amount of grants received turn into an unsubsidized Federal Direct Student Loan that must be repaid.
