CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Principles of Education and Training is designed to introduce learners to the various careers available within the education and training career cluster. Students use self-knowledge and educational and career information to analyze various careers within the education and training career cluster. Students will also gain an understanding of the basic knowledge and skills essential to careers within the education and training career cluster. Students will develop a graduation plan that leads to a specific career choice in the student's interest area.

• The student completes career investigations within the education and training career cluster.

• The student understands societal impacts within the education and training career cluster.

• The student explores careers in administration and administrative support.

• The student explores careers in professional support services.

• The student explores careers in teaching and training.

• The student investigates career opportunities within the education and training career cluster.

• The student explores options in education and career planning.

QUESTION: You say – “I’m not going to be a classroom teacher … why should I complete the Education & Training Program of Study?”

ANSWER: Because most likely in your lifetime … you will be an EDUCATOR …

parents … corporate trainers … social workers … medical field personnel ...

and so on goes the list … are ALL educators! We will all teach someone in our lifetimes and many great leadership opportunities may be found in this program of study that will be of benefit no matter what career path you decide on!

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS AND CREDITS

This course may be taken for 1 credit as the introductory course in the Education & Training Program of Study. This course is recommended for students in Grades 9-12.

METHODS OF STUDY

The curriculum for this class is online. We will utilize our laptops daily and make a concerted effort to go paperless in 2015-16. In addition to computer technology, we will also utilize videos, current events, class discussion, projects and other traditional means of classroom instruction to meet the expectations in this class.
