II.    Grading (school-wide)

a.    Tests/Essays = 30%

b.    Projects = 25%

c. Quizzes = 20%

d.    Classwork /Homework = 15%

e.    Participation = 10%

III.    Grading Scale

a.    A = 90%-100%

b.    B = 80% - 89%

c.    C = 70% - 79%

d.    D = 69% - 60%

e.    F = 59% or below

IV.    Materials

a.    Three ring binder, preferably with 4 dividers and loose leaf paper

b.    Red, blue, and black pens

c.    Highlighters

d. Pocket dictionary

e. Composition notebook

f. 1 Hand Sanitizer bottle (any size) for classroom use – SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT – and tissue paper (of any kind) will come in handy with the “Flu Bug” decides to visit.

V.    Class Requirements

a.    Students are required to bring all items in the materials list to class daily

b.    The binder should be divided into four sections:

i.    Section 1: Springboard

ii.     Section 2:  Writing

iii.    Section 3: Grammar

iv.    Section 4: Independent Reading (** )

Books required: Lord of the Flies by William Golding (Qtr. 1); Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe (Qtr. 2); Oedipus Cycle by Sophocles (Qtr. 3).

 *NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. All assignments are due during class time. No assignment will be accepted after school, after class, or after it has been collected UNLESS THE STUDENT HAS AN EXCUSED ABSENCE.

   * It is the student’s responsibility to inquire what assignments, activities, test or quiz announcements were administered.

    

VII.    Homework

a.    Homework will be assigned on a daily basis and is due on its designated due date or it will be a zero. Check Mrs. Espinosa’s homework link DAILY.

VIII.    Quizzes and Tests

a.    All quizzes and tests will be announced (verbally and posted on board and on ) at least two days in advance – with the exception of pop-quizzes.

IX.    Class Rules

a.    Students must be prepared for class everyday with all of their materials.

b.    Students are to raise their hands before speaking. Disruptive or rude behavior will NOT BE tolerated.

c.    Respect yourself and each other. Value everyone’s property, opinions, and feelings.

d.    Follow the Rules and Expectations of Doral Academy Charter School.

**Wish List Items: Gift cards (Office Depot/Get Smart) or any other retail store that carries school supplies. If you decide to bring items to the classroom, please note that EACH item has a value of $3.33. In your school contract, you are required to complete 30 community hours through the school year so items can be used for these hours as well.
