Kean has several special programs in partnership with specific school districts to address teacher shortages in key content areas. Candidates fulfill NJ Alternate Route requirements while teaching under supervision.

Funding Your Career in Education

There are special local, state and federal programs to assist you in paying for your career in education. You may be eligible for one of these programs.

Graduate Tuition Reimbursement

Your school district may have a program to support continued education. Check with your Human Resources or Personnel Office.

Grants

-TEACH Grants are available to teacher candidates who qualify and commit to teaching in shortage areas in high-need schools. Awards from the Federal government are up to $4,000/year. A 4-year commitment to teach in a high-need district is required. Contact the Financial Aid Office at (908) 737-3190.

-Transition to Teaching Grants (T3 and New Vistas) offer $5000 in tuition assistance if you qualify and commit to teaching for 3 years in the partnering school district.

Many programs leading to certification in grades P-3, K-5, 5-8, K-12 Content Areas, as well as Special Education Physical Education and Health, Theater, Music, and Art Education.

• Graduate School Programs Leading to Initial Certification

• Post-Baccalaureate Certification Pro-grams

For students with a BA or BS wishing to pursue teacher certification at the post-baccalaureate level, undergraduate sequen- ces of 30 credits result in teacher cer- tification. Please contact the Post-Bac Certification Office at 908-737-0570
