Cautionary Note
In Florida, each public school district, after collective bargaining activities, adopts a salary schedule for instructional personnel in that district. In some school districts, a salary schedule for the school year is negotiated and adopted after the collection of salary data for that school year by the Department of Education (FDOE). In many of these districts, the final negotiated salary schedule provides retroactive pay to instructional personnel for the entire school year. When this happens, the salary information on the FDOE Staff Database does not reflect the subsequent salary increase for that district. Users of teacher salary data are advised to be aware of this and other factors affecting the data when making judgments and drawing conclusions based on these data.
Figure 2 shows the percent change in average teacher salaries for the past five years. The highest percent increase over the previous year occurred in 2011-12 at 1.65 percent. In 2012-13 the average teacher salary increased by 0.22 percent.

Experience
Florida teachers currently average 11.84 years of teaching experience. The average number of years of experience includes both public and private teaching experience from within and outside the state. Since teachers’ average years of experience greatly impacts the average salary for teachers, this factor should be taken into consideration when comparing average teacher salaries of the districts.
District-Level Reports
District-level information on teacher salaries and experience is displayed in Table 1 through Table 7 on the following pages.
In reference to Table 1, the 2011 legislature authorized in 1012.22(1)(c)3, F.S., that a district school board may not use advanced degrees in setting a salary schedule for instructional personnel or school administrators hired on or after July 1, 2011, unless the advanced degree is held in the individual’s area of certification and is only a salary supplement.
Therefore, because of the various salary schedules districts may use in negotiating salaries, this report no longer includes average teacher salaries by degree levels since not all are paid according to those degree levels anymore. Table 1 reflects data on average teacher salaries according to the current salary schedules reported.
