November 2012Dear Families,As you may be aware, the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has advised its members on a variety of topics. One area in which ETFO has provided advice to teachers is in the completion of the Elementary Progress Report Card. ETFO has advised teachers to write a total of two comments (one comment for Learning Skills and one comment for one academic subject) on Progress Report Cards. As a result, this year, your child’s Progress Report Card might look different than it did in the past. The Elementary Progress Report Card is only one aspect of ongoing communication between home and school. As always, we encourage you to discuss your child’s progress with their teachers. They are available to respond, either through a parent-teacher conference at the school or by phone, to any specific questions about the information in your child’s Progress Report Card. The primary purpose of assessment is to improve student learning. You can help boost learning by visiting the “Parents—Help Your Child” section of the Peel board’s website at . There you can download a wide variety of activities and tip sheets available in 40 languages. Thank you for your continued interest and involvement in education. We look forward to working with you to ensure your child’s success.Tony PontesDirector of Education? ................
