POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

|POSITION: |AMERICA READS/AMERICA COUNTS TUTOR - STUDENT WORK Study |

|PRIMARY LOCATION: |Selected schools in public school systems and/or non-profit organizations in DeKalb, Rockdale, Newton, and/or |

| |Morgan Counties that offer classrooms or after-school programs for teaching children to read or perform math. |

|DESCRIPTION: |Student work-study assignments offer enrolled students the opportunity to gain work experience while pursuing |

| |their education. |

|ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: |Under the direction and guidance of classroom teachers, America Reads/America Counts tutors help children in |

| |grades 1 – 5 learn lesson material related to reading and math. Tutors provide extra attention to students who|

| |are having difficulty with school assignments. |

| |Tutors may help students learn to recognize and speak letters and/or words. They may read to students or |

| |listen as students read to them. They may also help students learn to perform math procedures. Sometimes |

| |tutors work with groups of children, while at other times; they may work with a single student. They may |

| |supervise students who are working on projects. In addition, tutors should be prepared to do the following: |

| |Notice when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and inform the teacher |

| |Follow guidelines and instructions |

| |Manage the time of self and students |

| |Check how well students are learning or doing something |

| |Use several methods to learn or teach students new things |

| |Be aware of students' reactions and change in behavior in relation to them |

| |Look for ways to help students |

| |Persuade students to approach things differently when necessary |

| |Execute tutoring duties under the direction of a classroom teacher |

| |Tutor students who need help understanding classroom lessons |

| |Lead classroom exercises, related to tutoring, if requested by the teacher |

| |Correct and grade homework and exams, as related to tutoring exercises |

| |Assist students in computer labs |

| |Assist special education students |

| |Assist at-risk students and their families |

| |Work with the teacher, prepare student handouts and audiovisual materials |

| |Participate in parent-teacher meetings, if requested by the teacher |

| |Assist the teacher in enforcing school policies and rules |

| |Dress in professional attire appropriate to the position and the classroom assignment |

| |Exhibit professional behaviors, operate in a confidential mode, and work well with others |

|MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: |In order to be eligible for Federal Work Study You MUST … |

| |High school diploma or GED |

| |Be enrolled as a student at GA Piedmont Technical College in a Diploma or Degree program |

| |Be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours of classes |

| |Maintain satisfactory academic progress at all times |

| |Be selected by a hiring manager for an assignment |

| |Applicants for this position MUST be able to: |

| |Read and understands work-related materials |

| |Express ideas clearly when speaking or writing |

| |Perform math procedures taught to children in grades 1-9 |

| |Listen to others, understand, and ask questions |

|salary/benefits: |The salary for this position is $13.00 per hour. Assignments as a work-study student are not eligible for |
