OBJECTIVES: To investigate various materials for and methods of teaching ESL and foreign
Languages, to identify sources of ESL/FL materials, to practice various
teaching techniques and methodologies, and to compile a compendium of
ESL/FL teaching techniques.

TEXTBOOK EVALUATIONS: Students must evaluate at least two textbooks that are currently
used to teach ESL or other modern languages. The guide sheet suggests components to be included in the written evaluations.
WEBSITE EVALUATION: Choose an Internet website that contains helpful information about
teaching ESL/EFL. Use the guide sheet to discuss the important features of the website.
COMPENDIUM: Students are required to present a total of eight teaching techniques in class as a micro-teaching assignment, then to make copies of the one-page description of each technique for the other students in the class to be added to their compendium. Each student must have a minimum of 100 teaching techniques in the compendium to be submitted by the due date. The supplementary bibliography lists various sources for techniques.
