Job Description – Technical Support Specialist - Electrical



Reporting to the Manager, Projects and Technical Support, you will be responsible for technical & specification review, analysis, calculation, design & engineering, product modifications, drawings submission review, and production orders in the Technical Support and Project Management group. The key accountability is to take all necessary steps to ensure that timely technical support is provided to customers, sales staff, and product support group. The following list outlines some of the main responsibilities for the Technical Support Specialist:? Main Responsibilities:Provide technical support/work in connection with design and specifications for commercial, institutional and industrial construction markets. Review and/or prepare single line diagrams, working electrical drawings, and as-built electrical drawings ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, standards, and specifications. Engineer new technologies and modifications into existing equipment configurations as required.Review plans and specifications to determine electrical material requirements (quantities and qualities), pricing of materials, etc. Work with suppliers, project coordinators, and project manager as required facilitating the shop drawings review, handling and expediting delivery of materials.Review, design, and selection of electrical hardware and materials, controllers, servo systems (digital or analogue), AC/DC drives, Input / Output panels and subsystem layouts and wiring diagrams.Assist project manager with the preparation of ‘Issued for Build/Construction/Manufacturing” documents and drawings.Provide technical assistance and specification review to sales staff through project estimation stage. Provide support to sales staff on technical presentations for consulting engineering firms.Technical analysis, calculations, and review of project requirements/specifications after sourcing, ensuring equipment and materials quoted are correct and meet the codes.Preparation of technical review results, correspondence, and drawing submittals check list.Review of electromechanical equipment shop drawings package prior to submission to customers.Review returned submittal drawings to ensure ‘comments’ and ‘change items’ are addressed and that proper equipment is released into production. Preparation of formal response for each item of concern for consulting engineers.Establish, create, and update equipment data and manuals required for projects.Create fabrication drawings, production orders and Bills of Material for purchasing and manufacturing.Provide support to manufacturing department through build-up projects, modifications, and trouble shooting. Perform quality control review of the built products to ensure they meet specification and code.Team up with Mechanical technologist(s) on electromechanical configurations, designs, and equipment and materials selections and approvals. Create construction standards for some equipment configurations and electrical materials.Other? ?? Present a professional image to the Company’s customers and suppliers maintaining the highest ethical standard of conduct.? ?? Participate in company-sponsored training programs as provided.? ?? Adhere to all Health and Safety rules and recommendations at all times.? ?? In the case of a power outage or declared State of Emergency by any level of Government, be available for work.Other tasks and responsibilities as may be required from time to time consistent with this position and the job description and duties set out herein.Qualifications:Electrical Engineering Technology diploma (3-year program) from a recognized technical institute. Certified engineering technologists will be preferred.Minimum of 5 years related work experience in Electrical installations and equipment, power, lighting, control systems, industrial network and electrical generation.Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and database.Experienced with PLC networks, industrial networking, controls, distribution panels, breakers, and switches.Excellent oral and written communication skills to liaise with inter-company departments and external customers. This position requires a high level of language skills to communicate technical subject matters with internal and external customers orally and in writing.Good familiarity with Canadian codes and national standards, particularly with CSA standards.Familiarity with electromechanical equipment (generators) is an asset.Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic machinery is a plus.Excellent organizational skills with strong multi-tasking capabilities, and time management.A self-starter and a team player who is able to work both in a team environment and independently.Strong analytical, problem solving and research skills with attention to detail.Contact Information:Please forward your resume and cover letter to careers@totalpower.ca .
