1. Committee approved Minutes #8, January 16, 2020.

2. Committee approved the request from the Department of Art and Art History to end date the

following courses:

ART 3120 – Life Drawing I (4)

ART 3320 – Life Painting I (4)

ART 3330 – Historic Painting Techniques I (4)

ART 3350 – Historic Painting Techniques II (4)

ART 3750 – Conceptual and Postmodern Art (4)

3. Committee approved the request from the Department of Biological Sciences to renumber and retitle and change the description and prerequisites for the following course, and to end-date BIO 4211:

From:

BIO 4211 Molecular Biology Laboratory (2)

Basic techniques in molecular biology: isolation and characterization of DNA and RNA, cloning, restriction analysis, nucleic acid hybridization and recombinant DNA techniques.

Pre/Corequisite(s): BIO 4210 (if prerequisite, with a grade of (C) or higher).

To:

BIO 4255 Advanced Methods in Molecular Genetics (1)

Advanced molecular techniques including nucleic acid isolation and amplification, restriction fragment analysis, gel electrophoresis and genome-editing. Students will design and execute experiments and perform basic phenotypic and cytological analyses. Prerequisite(s): BIO 3210 or BIO 3230 or BIO 3232 or BIO 3400 or BIO 3500 or BIO 4402 or CHM 4254 or BCM 4254, with a grade of (C) or higher, or permission of instructor.

4. Committee deferred the request from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics to add the following combined degree program:

Combined Bachelor/Master of Science in Applied Statistics

5. Committee deferred the request from the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures to add the following new course:

SPN 3190 – Business Spanish: Communications and Journalism (4)

Prepares students to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking individuals in business, marketing, communications, journalistic, and public relations settings. Designed to help students achieve an intermediate level in Spanish to execute journalistic and corporate communications.

Prerequisite(s): SPN 2150. SPN 3140 highly recommended.

6. Committee denied the request from the Department of Music to add the following new course:

MUS 1102 – Beginning Guitar for Non-Majors (2)

Introduction to basic guitar, designed for students with little or no prior experience. Student must have access to a playable guitar. Course cannot be used to fulfill the applied requirement for music majors.

7. Request withdrawn from the Department of Music to end date the following course:

MUS 1103 – Guitar for Beginners for Non-Majors (2)

8. Committee reviewed CAS Departmental Honors criterion.
