The students who from a poorer school community do not have as many opportunities as a affluent school community to use different technologies in learning, gain more information from technology, work with peers in anywhere anytime, and improve technology literacy. However, the standardized tests are required for every student. Therefore, in this situation, teachers should keep focusing to teach what students need to know and will be tested, and then combine the technologies that the schools have. Computers can teach students with problem solving, so that students can practice individually. Computers provide feedback and explain answers in detail. Computers also help students create their projects. For example, students do research, edit their projects, and work with peers with computers. Before using technology, teachers need to create the curriculum first. Teachers should think about what kinds of technologies are best for the teaching or activities. How to integrate the technology and the things teachers teach. Teachers should also need to consider how well they know about the technology and how well students know about that. Teachers also need to plan how long students will spend on the technology and what they need to do after they finish the tasks. If some activities that do not need technologies, teachers do not have to implement technology in teaching. Sometimes let students do hands-on activities are good. In addition, rubric and portfolio are good assessment for students. Teachers create rubric for students to know what they need to do and self-check their projects. Teachers use online portfolio or hardcopy portfolio to record students’ progress, and students will more engage with study. Most of schools use technology in education. As a curriculum leader, I need to tell the teachers directly that using technology can be a good thing or a bad thing. The good thing is to help students better understand the materials and have different ways to learn knowledge. The bad thing is teachers who use technology in teaching may not teach what the students’ needs. Therefore, how to use technology appropriately and how to use appropriate technology in teaching are the essential problems. Teachers need to focus on the standardize tests and the things that students need to know besides the tests. Thus, teachers need to plan the curriculum that addresses on what students need to know, and then build the instruction on the curriculum. Teachers should come up with some good activities that help students memorize, practice, and use the knowledge. After these steps, teachers can begin to find the technology that is related to the activities and assist students in the activities. After teachers confirm the technology they want to use in class, they need to think about whether students are familiar with this technology or not. What if the technology does not work in class and what is the back up plan. In addition, teachers need to consider what kinds of assessments students need to complete, when teachers are thinking the instruction. Teachers should design their teaching plan well. As long as teachers know what is the main role of the technology and think comprehensively when they are planning the instruction, technology is an effective way to teach studentsReferencesCowan, J.
