ITS Learning Technology/ConsultingDescriptionEngages individual faculty and other members of the university community, as well as academic units and , campuses, central administrative units to improve education faculty and student success and educational technology practice through the thoughtful application of academic technologies by means of consultation, programs, research, and evaluation, as well as strategic partnerships. Service OfferingsConsultation Programs Campus Innovation InitiativesAssessment and EvaluationStrategic PartnershipsConsultation Consultations fall into three tiers, determined by the scope, time commitment, and resources needed to achieve outcomes (these are fluid because a short meeting intended to address a specific question might lead to repeated contact as new questions or challenges arise). Consultants are available to help faculty and staff, without charge, identify, plan how to effectively apply, and evaluate the impact of academic technologies. Consultants provide expertise in a number of areas, including (re)designing curriculum and course activities for blended or online learning, facilitating deep learningstudent centered learning, designing media-rich learning environments, evaluating the effectiveness of curricular redesign or classroom innovation, and strategic planning involving academic technologies to achieve departmental and collegiate goals and initiatives. Consultations can be requested by contacting LTC@uiowa.eduProgramsPrograms are designed to help participants deepen their skills in and understanding of integrating technology into teaching practices. We offer a continuum of engagement and outcomes:SITA ProgramStudent Instructional Technology Assistants (SITAs) work one-on-one with instructors on projects that enhance instruction with technology.SITAs guide instructors through the project planning process, provide consulting on technology and instructional design issues, offer production assistance, and introduce other Instructional Services resources as needed. Currently underway with 15 instructors,. 187 sections and approximately with ~850 students enrolled.Phase II (Spring 2013): Explore and examine a mMultimodal, e-text and digital course material delivery engagement with current pilot instructors as well as new interested faculty. Possible implementation of more than one eText platform and publisher in order to gain insight into the variety of options and experiences available for faculty and students. Assessment and EvaluationResearch and evaluation promotes evidence-based practice by exploring the nature and effects of educational technology used at the University of Iowa. The team investigates educational technology by Collaborating with University faculty to evaluate course-level innovations involving digital technologyPartnering with academic and central units to evaluate department-, college-, and university-level technology initiativesReviewing and disseminating research and scholarship on academic technologyConducting campus-wide research into regarding the impact digital learning technologies are having on teaching and learning at the University as a whole Undertaking scholarly projects designed to advance the state of knowledge in the discipline of educational technology, often in cooperation with colleagues at the University of Iowa or at other institutions of higher educationStrategic PartnershipsStrategic partnerships represent an ongoing partnership or commitment, possibly a multi-year commitment, in order to meet a strategically significant initiative. We work with partners to develop a clear understanding of goals and outcomes, operational procedures, and metrics for success.
