INTERVIEW TIPS FOR 4-H’ERS
Getting Ready For the Interview
• Be able to talk about yourself
(Family, 4-H Projects, Activities, Hobbies, Interests)
• You may want to practice answering interview question
Examples: Tell us about yourself.
Tell us about your background, accomplishments.
What are your strengths? Weaknesses?
• Be prepared to share why you are interested in a particular trip or award
Appearance
• Dress neatly, please try to avoid jeans
• Do not chew gum during the interview
• Do not wear a hat to the interview
Arrival
• Be sure to be at least 5-10 minutes early
Self-Expression
• Greet the interviewers with a firm handshake
• Speak in a clear voice
• Be sure everyone in the interview can hear you
• Make eye contact with the interviewers
• Remember – the interview is short, so make the best use of the time
• Avoid yes / no responses to question - explain your answers
Attitude
• Maturity is very important
• Be enthusiastic
• Smile!
Resourcefulness
• Tell about the offices you have held and the committees you have worked on
• Be prepared to talk about extracurricular activities other than 4-H
