Ramadan Special: Remember Me, I will remember you ( ) ? Allah Al Ghafar Al Ghafoor Al Ghaffar ( ) ? Day 3

Introduction

Surah Al Baqarah 152: ( ) (Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying,). I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me) ? when you remember Allah (swt) then you'll be grateful. And us remembering Allah (swt) is no way compared to Allah (swt) remembering us, subhan Allah.

Note on Allah At Tawwab

One of the important pillars of tawbah is truthfulness and He tests you with your repentance, are you truly sincere in repenting? For example, someone makes tawbah from spying and backbiting, then Allah (swt) will test him. A situation will come that will make it easy for him to spy and backbite, is he truthful in his repentance?

When a person wants to repent then he is tested with it. There is a story of a magician who saw his father in a dream in the hellfire. His father was also a magician who passed away. He was so scared after this dream and for the first time did wudhu and for the first time prayed fajr in congregation. Then the devils that used to serve him went against him, they killed his children and wife, and they burned his house, though he knew this is a test for the truthfulness of his repentance. He might have lost his duniya but he tasted the sweetness of faith, and Allah (swt) made him a da'ee and he opened many Quran centers in his country, subhan Allah.

You will find the name of Allah At Tawwab appears mostly with the name Ar Raheem. However in one ayah it's mentioned with Al Hakeem.

Surah An Noor 6-10: ( )( )( )( )( )( ) (And for those who accuse their wives, but have no witnesses except themselves, let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies (i.e. testifies four times) by All?h that he is one of those who speak the truth. (6) And the fifth (testimony should be) the invoking of the Curse of All?h on him if he be of those who tell a lie (against her). (7) But it shall avert the punishment (of stoning to death) from her, if she bears witness four times by All?h, that he (her husband) is telling a lie. (8) And the fifth (testimony) should be that the Wrath of All?h be upon her if he (her husband) speaks the truth. (9) And had it not been for the Grace of All?h and His Mercy on you (He would have hastened the punishment upon you)! And that All?h is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, the All-Wise. (10))

This is telling us about zina and you need four trustworthy men witnesses to see the act. This shows how great it is to accuse and slander others, subhan Allah. There is penalty for zina, if the person is not married then he's lashed and if the person is married then it's stoning, for this reason four witnesses are needed.

There was a lady at the time of the Prophet () who committed zina and she felt so guilty and told him, purify me. He told her to come back after she delivers, the Prophet () thought she would forget about it, but she came after she delivered. Then he told her to breastfeed for two years, thinking she would forget about it, but she still came with the child and he was eating. She told him to purify me, and this shows her great guilt and truthfulness in wanting to be purified. Then the penalty was imposed on her and the Prophet () said her repentance is sufficient for the city. Allah (swt) is At Tawwab Al Hakeem ? He is the All-Wise to put the penalty for its purpose.

Names of Allah Al Ghafir Al Ghafoor Al Ghaffar ( )

The name Al Ghafir () is mentioned only once in Surah Ghafir 3: ( ) (The Forgiver of sin, the Acceptor of repentance, the Severe in punishment, the Bestower (of favours), L? il?ha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), to Him is the final return)

The name Al Ghafoor () is mentioned in 91 ayat. The name Al Ghaffar () is mentioned 5 times in the Quran.

Linguistic meaning ( )

The word () means ( ) ? concealment, covering and protection. The word () also means a helmet worn in battle, it covers and is a protection. The word () is the place of forgiveness. The words () and () show intensity; they are ( ) ? exaggerated form, Allah (swt) is

intensely covering and concealing as protection, subhan Allah. We are `exaggerating' in sins ? we are committing so many sins ? so we need forgiveness.

Meaning in the deen ( )

Al Ghafoor (): the forgiveness of Allah (swt) is plenty regardless of how great the sins may be ( ). The greatest sin is shirk and shirk opens the door to other sins, yet Allah (swt) still forgives the one who repents.

Al Ghaffar (): the forgiveness of Allah (swt) is plenty regardless of how many times sins are committed ( ).

We can't invoke Allah (swt) without feeling His names, for this reason it's important to feel, `what is Allah's forgiveness?'. And when you feel it then you will apply it by asking Allah (swt) for forgiveness.

People might hear the same words about Allah (swt), but not everyone has the same feelings towards Him. Why? Because it depends on the gratitude and happiness of the heart to be learning about Allah (swt), subhan Allah. May Allah (swt) make us grateful and happy for learning about Him. Ameen.

Sometimes we don't realize we've done something until we feel something is wrong, subhan Allah. When we upset our mother, there's a coldness and distance until we apologize. We don't feel good when there's a sin and we don't feel good when others are cold towards us. Now we are not talking about people, but your connection to Allah (swt), subhan Allah. Imagine we're sinning day and night.

Allah (swt) knows His creation, He encompasses you, but He conceals your sins. Sometimes we commit sins we're unaware of and if we were aware of it now then it would destroy us, subhan Allah.

We have so many sins of the heart, but does He expose them all at once? No, with time He will show you more, and as you become elevated then He'll show you more; He is gentle in showing you especially with sicknesses of the heart.

Allah (swt) conceals and covers your sins from the eyes of the people. Allah (swt) is Ghafoor all the time even before committing sins. He's Al Ghafoor by covering our sins before we even knew about them. Suppose someone praises you with all of your sins, what should you feel at this moment? Allah (swt) is Al Ghafoor for concealing you, and you don't need to disclose what's hidden. Some people will say `you're so sweet', but you don't need to tell people, `but no my heart is bad, my tongue is sharp at home, etc'. Allah (swt) is concealing you, so why are you exposing yourself? Subhan Allah. This is not humbleness. Allah (swt) knows people's natures ? one day they're praising you and another day they're putting you down ? so don't expose your faults because people are unforgiving.

It's not taqwa when you think you're great, this is called () ? deception. Allah (swt) is always forgiving us no matter how many times we're sinning. A person might commit a sin and he's not immediately exposed by being caught. This is in order to

make it easy for him to repent. When he's constantly committing the sin without thinking it's wrong then he gets exposed to the people be getting caught. It's better to solve what you have within you before it gets exposed to others. For example, someone might be jealous but he doesn't know about it because Allah (swt) is concealing it. Then with time, Allah (swt) will show him he's jealous before it's shown to the people. It's better to solve this within himself with the Quran. If he's not solving it, then the jealousy gets exposed to everyone, and it becomes more difficult to solve something when exposed to others than within yourself, so it's important to always seek forgiveness from Allah (swt). If one human knows the sin of another human then he never forgets it. Imagine someone sees you angry then they'll never forget it and they even tells others though they didn't see you, subhan Allah ? so you get exposed. May Allah (swt) protect us from sinning in front of others. Ameen. When you know Allah (swt) is Al Ghafoor and He's concealing our sins, then you too should conceal other's sins. Imagine a wife is exposing her husband by telling others he sleeps too much; it's not a good character. Or a teacher has a good view about a student and the mother tells the teacher, `oh no you don't know him, he's actually like this'. This causes the teacher to change her view about the student and even treat him differently, this is not a good attitude to do something like this. Hadith: ( " " .) (It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah () said:"Whoever covers (the sin of) a Muslim,

Allah will cover him (his sin) in this world and in the Hereafter.") ? Sunan Ibn Majah Book 20, Hadith 2641 You might be concealing others and this is good, but you bring it up if you're angry, `you take out all of the dirty laundry'. This is not concealing. Or you remind someone, `I saw you doing this'. Even if you see someone doing something wrong then forget it. When we see someone making a mistake, we scold them, but when Allah (swt) conceals, He doesn't scold us or deprive us from food and drink, subhan Allah. Allah (swt) is dealing with us with love and mercy. In Surah Al Burooj, they were killing others because of their deen, yet still there is a chance for repentance, subhan Allah.

Surah Al Burooj 10-14: ( )( )( )( )( )() (Verily, those who put into trial the believing men and believing women (by torturing them and burning them), and then do not turn in repentance, (to All?h), then they will have the torment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the burning Fire. (10) Verily, those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them will be Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). That is the great success. (11) Verily, (the Seizure (Punishment) of your Lord is severe and painful.) (12) Verily, He it is Who begins (punishment) and repeats (punishment in the Hereafter) (or originates the creation of everything, and then repeats it on the Day of Resurrection). (13) And He is Oft-Forgiving, full of love (14))

Allah (swt) is Al Ghafoor, He conceals the sins and forgives and which other name is mentioned? Al Wadood ? even if someone is doing so many sins but seeks forgiveness, then it will not affect Allah's love towards him, subhan Allah. He doesn't forgive and then hate, but He forgives and loves so much, subhan Allah. Unlike someone who hurts another and when they apologize, the person says `I forgive you, but I don't love you'.

Hadith: ( : " : ": " ) (Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah () said, "Allah, the Exalted, has said: 'O son of adam, I forgive you as long as you pray to Me and hope for My forgiveness, whatever sins you have committed. O son of 'Adam, I do not care if your sins reach the height of the heaven, then you ask for my forgiveness, I would forgive you. O son of 'Adam, if you come to Me with an earth load of sins, and meet Me associating nothing to Me, I would match it with an earthload of forgiveness."') ? Riyadh As Saliheen, At Tirmidhi, Book 1, Hadith 442

Allah (swt) loves forgiveness, repentance and pardoning.

Al Ghafoor coupled with other names of Allah (swt) in the Quran ( )

Al Ghafoor ()

The name Al Ghafoor is mentioned only once on its own.

Surah Al Isra'a 25: ( ) (Your Lord knows best what is in your inner-selves. If you are righteous, then, verily, He is Ever Most Forgiving to those who turn unto Him again and again in obedience, and in repentance.)

This ayah came after how you will deal with your parents. Allah (swt) knows what's in your heart. For example, your mother tells you to bring water to her, but inside your heart you're thinking, `what is this always asking me to get water?', subhan Allah.

Allah (swt) knows what's inside your heart, He's not looking at the deed outside but at your heart. People say you're being dutiful to your parents but you're eating yourself up inside, subhan Allah. Allah (swt) knows what's inside your nafs and this needs taqwa because your desire wants something but you want to obey Allah (swt). For example, they want to go out with you at a certain time, you want to obey your parents from the outside but you also want to obey Allah (swt) from the inside.

If there's goodness inside your heart, meaning you want to do it for Allah (swt), then what's the result? Then Allah (swt) is Ghafoor, meaning He's covering your sin and protecting you from the evil deed if you are from the () ? returning to Allah (swt). You think, `no I want to do it for Allah (swt)'.

It might look like you're doing a good deed from the outside but your inside is not, so you need forgiveness for this.

The best way of reforming is covering your sins. For example, when you want to reform your children then you should not expose them. Your daughter might take and carry news from others and tell you. Don't tell others, `watch out, she goes and tells me all of your news', then this does not reform her because this quality becomes engrained in her.

Rabb Ghafoor ( )

Surah Al Kahf 58: ( ) (And your Lord is Most Forgiving, Owner of Mercy. Were He to call them to account for what they have earned, then surely, He would have hastened their punishment. But they have their appointed time, beyond which they will find no escape)

This ayah is giving us so much hope. Don't think someone who's doing a mistake will be left alone without being reformed. Your Rabb, your Reformer will cover their sins because it can make them repent to Allah (swt). And He's full of mercy. At the time of Omar bin Al Khattab (ra) a man was caught stealing, and the man said, `this is the first time for me to steal'. Then Omar bin Al Khattab (ra) said, `no this is not your first time because if it was then Allah (swt) wouldn't have exposed you', subhan Allah. He knows the actions of Allah (swt).

Hypocrites have many sins of the heart and Allah (swt) conceals them in order to reform themselves but the hypocrites just want to conceal themselves from the people, so they become exposed.

The time Allah (swt) conceals your sins then this is nurturing for you in order to reform yourself and this is out of Allah's mercy.

If Allah (swt) seized us for every sin we committed, meaning there is no covering at all, then the punishment would be hastened and nothing would be left, subhan Allah. Imagine someone lies and
