HS_CDS CENTER PROVIDES or CAMPUS PROVIDES (if stores data by CDS Code)

This field is the 14-digit CDS code of the high school that the student attended. ACDS code is a standard code that uniquely identifies a school, as well as giving information about the county and district of the school. If you don't know the CDS code for a given school, you can:

1. Look it up on the web. The ED-Data site has a lookup that has CDS codes, given the name and city of a school. () You may search by school name or by district and there is a lot of other information available on each school, such as test scores, class size, ethnicity of teachers.

2. Use the California public school directory, published by the California department of education.

Data in this field should not contain hyphens, and should be 14 characters long. An example of data in this field is: 01611190130229

This piece of information tells me that this student attended Alameda High, which is in Alameda county, and in Alameda City Unified school district. Having the school identified in this matter unlocks a wealth of other data about the school, which can be used in various studies.

HSGRADYR CAMPUS PROVIDES

This element, high school graduation year, should have four digits (e.g., 1998).

LCOLLEGE CENTER PROVIDES or CAMPUS PROVIDES (if stores data by standard CSU Institution of Origin code)

This is the last college, two- or four-year, that the student attended prior to enrolling at the MEP campus.

SAT_I CAMPUS PROVIDES

TRANSGPA CAMPUS PROVIDES

This should be based on grades in all courses the institution has accepted as transferable three digits without decimal.

TRSUNITS CAMPUS PROVIDES

This should be based on all units the institution has accepted as transferable, four digits without decimal (but assumed to come after third digit, e.g. 0275=27.5 units).

MAJOR CAMPUS PROVIDES

LEVEL CAMPUS PROVIDES

This indicates the student's class level by units, one digit (1=Fr., 2=So., 3=Jr., 4=Sr., 5=post BA/S). While this information will be problematic for transfers, it is still important to know how the campus views the student.

EXP_GRAD CENTER PROVIDES

This information on expected year of graduation refers to the student's PRF response. It is a two-digit number representing the last two numbers in the year, e.g., 2000 would be 04.

Academic years must begin with Summer term and end with Spring term. Thus the year beginning in Summer 1998 and ending in Spring 1999 would be coded as "9899". This element is critical to defining the time frame for the next set of elements.

AC_STAND CAMPUS PROVIDES
