Application for a Master HVACR Contractor's License by Reciprocity

Based on N.J.A.C. 13:32A-2.5, "Reciprocity with Other States," and N.J.S.A. 45:16A-21, "Granting license without examination, reciprocity," the Board may only grant licensure through reciprocity to applicants from States which have licensure standards equal to, or comparable to, the requirements of New Jersey.

The State Board of Examiners of HVACR Contractors has determined that the following States do not have standards equal or comparable to New Jersey:

Maryland, Texas, Ohio, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, Arkansas, Louisiana, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Nevada, New Mexico & West Virginia.

If you are licensed in one of the above States, your application for reciprocity in New Jersey will be denied; however, you may view the Statutes and Regulations posted at the HVACR Board's website to determine if you are qualified for the Master HVACR Contractor's examination for licensure.

The information for examination is available through the link at the Board's home page at:

1. Click on (Laws and Regulations)

2. Click on (Chapter 32A State Board of Examiners of Heating Ventilating Air

Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors Regulations)

3. Scroll to Page 10 (N.J.A.C. 13:32A-2.2 Education Requirements)

Should you determine that you meet the requirements outlined in the regulations for the Master HVACR Contractor's licensing examination, you may proceed and attach appropriate documents as evidence of your qualifications for the examination. You may contact the Board Office at (973) 504-6250, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, for further assistance.
