Carter Railroad MuseumEast Tennessee State University10 November 2020Dear Valued Vendors and Supporters of the 6th Annual Big Train Show:We have been preparing and planning for our largest event ever in the 2021 6th Annual Big Train Show held on the campus of East Tennessee State University almost since we found out in mid-March, 2020, that we could not hold the 5th Annual Big Train Show scheduled for June 5-6, 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The outstanding 64,000 sq. ft., drive-in venue, we use with its great lighting and air-conditioning, would not be available for any scheduled events because of health safety precautions instituted by the university and the state of Tennessee. This policy, while necessary for everyone’s safety, was none-the-less, most disappointing. We were on track with the number of vendors coming to our show, numbers that by mid-March had surpassed any for our previous train shows, to host the largest show in our history, and one that is rapidly becoming one of the largest train shows in the southeastern United States. Our planning for the 6th Annual Big Train Show has been well underway for June 4-5, 2021, even with the risk of COVID being a threat to once more shut us down as we watched the numbers of positive cases continue to grow in our region, our state and the country. The university has now notified us that all scheduled events for the ETSU Memorial Center (Mini-Dome) for the summer of 2021 will have to be cancelled. The university has been allocated funds for a major renovation of the interior of that structure to begin in May and continue through the summer into September, 2021. So, even with COVID risk notwithstanding, we have lost our great venue for scheduled 2021 event. It is, therefore, with great regret that I must inform you that for the second consecutive year, our Big Train Show is CANCELLED! I know this has been a time of cancellations of train shows that you attend and support and that this has not been easy for any of us. We all seek the normality of existence that we took somewhat for granted for all of our lifetimes. But, this too, shall pass. I can tell you that we have reserved the venue for the first Friday and Saturday of June, 2022, and are making plans for the renewed Big Train Show for 2022. Please put these dates on your calendar, JUNE 3-4, 2022, 7TH ANNUAL BIG TRAIN SHOW, JOHNSON CITY, TN. We stopped the printing of our 2021 train show flyers, and our publicity campaign for the show, but we wanted to reach out to you, our vendors and supporters, to let you know we plan to continue to build one of the largest annual train shows in the southeast. We look forward to seeing you again in 2022. Stay safe and stay well!Regards,Fred Alsop ................
