María Hinojosa: One-on-One premieres fourth season with new episodes in January 2010

Tuesdays, beginning January 5, at 7:30pm on WGBH 2/HD

The award-winning series María Hinojosa: One-on-One opens its fourth season with new episodes beginning in January 2010. This season’s schedule provides viewers with in-depth interviews with guests from a wide range of fields and perspectives.

In the season premiere on Tuesday, January 5 at 7:30 pm, host María Hinojosa interviews the man with perhaps the greatest backstage pass of all time: former Rolling Stone editor Ben Fong-Torres. During his career at Rolling Stone which spanned from 1968-81, he wrote cover stories on legends like Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Marvin Gaye, and the Grateful Dead. His interview with Ray Charles won the Deems Taylor Award for Magazine Writing in 1974.

Other notable guests include playwright and activist Eve Ensler (The Vagina Monologues), chef Ming Tsai (Simply Ming), conceptual artist Krzysztof Wodiczko, Oscar-nominated screenwriter José Rivera (The Motorcycle Diaries), environmentalist Majora Carter and filmmaker Chris Eyre (Smoke Signals).

“We are thrilled with this season’s lineup,” said series producer Patricia Alvarado Núñez. “Our guests are remarkable people making significant contributions in many different areas, including journalism, arts, entertainment and global issues. It’s an honor to offer their intimate conversations with María to One-on-One’s viewers around the country, and our home audience in Boston.”

In addition to hosting One-on-One, Hinojosa is the managing editor and host of public radio’s Latino USA, and the senior correspondent for the PBS newsmagazine show NOW with David Brancaccio.

Ben Fong-Torres

A rock journalist, author, and broadcaster, Ben Fong-Torres is best known for his work with Rolling Stone magazine and the San Francisco Chronicle. In his interview with María Hinojosa, he discusses the highlights of his award-winning career; a career so unique that he was portrayed in the 2000 film Almost Famous by actor Terry Chen. Fong-Torres also discusses his father’s immigration to the United States and growing up Chinese-American in the ‘50s and ‘60s.

Chris Eyre

Krzysztof Wodiczko joins María Hinojosa to discuss his career as one of the most admired conceptual artists in the world. His work has ranged from large-scale slide and video projections on architectural façades worldwide to creating a vehicle for the homeless. In his latest exhibit for the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Wodiczko focuses on veterans engaged in active combat in Iraq, as well as Iraqi civilians.
