Apply judgement and provide detailed, specialist advice and guidance as required.Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities% TimeWriting and executing detailed test scripts in support of desktop and mobile applications40 %To review procedures and processes, ensuring they are fit for purpose and maximise efficiency, making recommendations for improvements where identified and implementing agreed change.10 %Ensuring compliance with departmental policies (such as change control, release management) and documenting related activities20 %To undertake defect and test case management processes within Redmine and provide detailed updates to Test & Compliance Lead/Head of Development20%To maintain quality control across multiple applications, in line with the departments cross browser development and support policy. 5 %Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder.5%Internal and external relationshipsOther members of the department/University staff.External customersSpecial RequirementsPERSON SPECIFICATIONCriteriaEssentialDesirableHow to be assessedQualifications, knowledge and experienceSkill level equivalent to achievement of HNC, A-Level, NVQ3 with proven work experience acquired in relevant roles and job-related training.Working experience of testing cross browser functionality and mobile applicationsPrevious working experience of defect tracking and test management tools such as Quality Centre, MS Test Manager, Jira or RedmineAbility to make effective use of standard office computer systems including word-processing and spreadsheets.ISEB/ISTQB/BCS foundation certification certificate in software testingUnderstanding of SQL server management studioPrevious experience of agile working methodologiesPlanning and organisingAble to plan and prioritise a range of one’s own standard and non-standard work activities.Ability to successfully plan and deliver test tasks over a period of several months.(e.g. prioritise test case/defect fixes for a monthly sprint)Problem solving and initiativeAble to identify and solve problems by applying judgement and initiative to tackle some situations in new ways and by developing improved work methods.Management and teamworkAble to solicit ideas and opinions to help form specific work plans.Able to positively influence the way a team works together.Able to effectively work to a customer’s expectationsAbility to effectively allocate to, and check work of staff, coaching/ training and motivating staff as required.
