January 2021 MCAS High School Mathematics Test Information

Spring 2021 MCAS High School Mathematics Test InformationIn spring 2021, the Department will offer both a Next Generation MCAS High School Mathematics test and a Legacy MCAS High School Mathematics test. This document provides information about each of these tests. Next Generation Mathematics Test InformationThe Next Generation Mathematics test is aligned to the standards that overlap between the Model Algebra I and Model Geometry courses and the Model Mathematics I and Model Mathematics II courses in the 2017 Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Framework. More information about standards alignment can be found here. The test has two sessions and is expected to be given over two days. Information about reporting category percentages, question types, and test structure can be found here. Additional resources, including information about calculator usage and reference sheets, are also available.Legacy Mathematics Test InformationThe Legacy Mathematics test will be aligned to the 2000, 2011, and 2017 Mathematics standards and will be reported out on the 2011 MCAS Grade 10 Mathematics reporting categories: Number & Quantity, Algebra & Functions, Geometry, and Statistics & Probability. Because of the change in standards from 2000 to 2017, questions on the legacy test will be aligned to standards at the high school level and the middle school level. Reporting CategoriesThe table below shows the percentage and total number of points for each reporting category on the legacy test.Reporting CategoryPercentage (+/- 5%)Total Number of PointsNumber & Quantity20%12Algebra & Functions30%18Geometry 30%18Statistics & Probability20%12Total100%60Legacy Mathematics Test Information (continued)Learning StandardsThe table below shows the standards that will be assessed on the legacy test, organized according to the 2011 reporting categories. The results will also be reported by standard, using both the 2011 and 2017 standards. Note that these are the same standards from the January 2021 test that was postponed as described in the Special Edition Student Assessment Update.Reporting Category12011 and 20172 Standard2000 Standard2Algebra & Functions8.F.410.P.2A-APR.110.P.3A-CED.110.P.7A-CED.310.P.8A-REI.410.P.5A-REI.1210.P.6F-BF.210.P.1F-IF.410.P.2F-LE.210.P.7GeometryGeometry7.G.310.G.107.G.410.M.1, 10.M.37.G.610.M.1, 10.M.28.G.510.G.5G-C.210.G.3G-CO.510.G.9G-GPE.710.G.7G-SRT.610.G.6Number & Quantity7.EE.310.N.1, 10.N.2, 10.N.47.NS.310.N.1, 10.N.28.NS.210.N.3N-Q.310.M.4Statistics & Probability6.SP.410.D.1S-ID.110.D.1S-ID.210.D.1S-ID.610.D.1, 10.D.21 The Reporting Category column refers to the 2011 Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for Mathematics. 2 The Department is providing the 2000 and 2017 standards for reference purposes.Legacy Mathematics Test Information (continued)Question TypesThe table below contains information about the question types on the test.Question TypeTotal PointsNumber of QuestionsMultiple Choice Students select one correct answer from among several answer options.3232Short Answer Students construct a short, written response, typically only a word or a number.44Open ResponseStudents write a response to a multi-part item that includes calculations and explanations to a problem or set of problems.246Structure of the TestThe test includes two test sessions given on two separate days. Each session will include multiple-choice and open-response items, while Session 1 will also include short-answer questions. Reference Materials and Tools Students will be provided the legacy Grade 10 Mathematics Reference Sheet. No calculator is allowed during Session 1. During Session 2, students will have access to a calculator (either a calculator on a computer or a handheld calculator). ................
