Grades 3 - 8 ELA and Math

Dear Parent/Guardian FORMTEXT [or actual name]:As we are all aware, the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing school closures disrupted the educational experiences of all Washington students. As part of Governor Inslee’s proclamation, Superintendent Reykdal cancelled further state-administered testing effective with school closures (and no later than March 17, 2020).Prior to school closure proclamation, the Washington Access to Instruction & Measurement (WA-AIM) assessment test window was scheduled to end April 3, 2020. As such, several students were able to participate in testing. Your child was one of those students who participated in testing in Spring 2020.This letter is to provide your student’s score results from the spring 2020 state tests in English language arts and math.In a typical year all Washington public school students in high school with significant cognitive disabilities are administered the WA-AIM English language arts (ELA) and math tests. These tests and scores are established to meet state and federal requirements. As noted above, Spring 2020 testing was not completed for all students. As with other state tests, the WA-AIM provides a snapshot of how a student performed on the given assessment. The assessments are not indicators of classroom performance. For your student’s 2020 results this point is even more true. Even with complete results, the state acknowledges that circumstances around the COVID pandemic might have impacted a student’s performance. In any given year a combination of classroom performance and state test score results provide a picture of your student’s skills and knowledge; this still holds for your student’s results for 2020, but reflections on possible outside influences impacting performance should be kept in mind.If you have concerns about your student’s testing performance, please talk with your student’s teacher(s). If you have any questions about your student’s score report, please contact FORMTEXT [Insert: name and contact information]We pay close attention to state test score results. These results provide additional information about students to help improve instruction and guide students’ learning needs. Information for families about state testing and learning standards can be found on the OSPI Assessment Resources webpage at . FORMTEXT [Insert: School’s performance and any planned efforts to help students with skills]We know you want your student to succeed in school. We want to be partners with you to make that happen. We welcome your calls and your visits. We hope you will share ideas you have on how we can continue to improve your student’s learning.Sincerely, FORMTEXT [Insert principal’s name] ................
