Anderson High School is a comprehensive high school for grades 9 through 12, with an approximate enrollment of 2100 students. With a faculty of 212, our staff includes a librarian, 5 counselors, college advisor, principal, associate principal, and 4 assistant principals.

Anderson High School is accredited by Texas Education Agency and Southern Association of Colleges and Universities.

Anderson is located in a neighborhood of varied socioeconomic families with a strong commitment to educational excellence leading to enrollment in a program of higher education upon graduation.

In partnership with our parents and our community, Anderson High School strives to provide a comprehensive educational experience that is high quality, challenging, and inspires all students to make a positive contribution to society.

Curriculum

Anderson High School prides itself on serving the educational needs of all its students with instructional arrangements ranging from special needs to gifted. In order to further strengthen all academic programs, Anderson High School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Our most rigorous curriculum is the IB Diploma program.

Athletics/Fine Arts

Anderson High School participates in Division 5A with varsity competition in football, baseball, golf, tennis, basketball, volleyball, track, cross country, swimming, wrestling, soccer, and softball. In 2010-11 every team sport qualified for regional playoffs. The extensive Fine Arts program includes art, band, orchestra, guitar, choir, drama, and dance.

Awards

Anderson has been recognized as one of the Best Public High Schools in the nation by Newsweek, ranking in the top 6% nationwide. The Washington Post named Anderson as one of the Top 500 High Schools in the nation and among the Top 50 High Schools in Texas (public, private, charter or magnet). The Texas ACT Council has presented Anderson with the 2011 College Readiness Award in recognition of a significant increase in its ACT Composite score over the past five years. In addition, Anderson’s SAT and ACT scores exceeded District, State & National overall average scores for the fourth year in a row.

Accomplishments – Class of 2011

In 2011, scholarships totaling approximately 6 million dollars were awarded to graduating seniors.

National Merit recognition – 11 National Merit Finalists, 1 National Merit Semifinalist, 23 Commended students, 7 National Hispanic Scholars.

On the exit level of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) Anderson earned passing rates of 96% Math, 96% English/Lang. Arts, 98% Science, 99% Social Studies.

In May 2011, 377 International Baccalaureate exams were administered to 97 seniors and 50 juniors; 31 students received full IB Diplomas; 66 students received IB Certificates in two or more areas of study.

Also in May 2011, 962 Advanced Placement exams in 24 subjects were administered to 448 candidates.

Of students reporting post-secondary plans, 91% of the Class of 2011 is continuing their education.
