The Top Ten Reasons TexShare Is

Better For Research Than The Internet

10. Not everything is available on the Internet.

The Internet is a fabulous resource, but contrary to popular belief, everything is NOT on the Internet. Many of the resources found in TexShare are only available elsewhere online if users pay a fee. TexShare contains books, scholarly journals, transcripts, newspapers, magazines, K-12 homework resources, and reports that are digitized, stored, and made accessible through Texas libraries.

9. TexShare contains content that is suitable for all ages.

TexShare offers K-12 student resources for homework and research help. The online collection contains sites such as eLibrary and Searchasauraus that offer broad subject topics and reading level ratings to help guide students and teachers.

8. Searching leads to relevant content.

You are assured of relevant content when searching one of the many subject specific resources contained in TexShare. Perform advanced searches on health and medicine, business resources, history and genealogy, and science and technology. The commercial databases licensed by TexShare offer authoritative, full-text content from verifiable sources.

7. The resources are free to Texas library users.

TexShare provides freely accessible archived and current issues of major magazines and newspapers that would otherwise require a subscription. The library provides them to you at no charge.

6. TexShare contains many of the same content and tools doctors, lawyers and other professionals turn to for information.

Professionals don’t randomly search the Internet to serve their clients; they rely on respected reference sources such as American Medical Association Complete Medical Encyclopedia and Harvard Law Review, which are both part of the TexShare online collection.

5. There is rigorous quality control for information on TexShare.

The Internet is a mass of largely unpublished materials produced by many different organizations, businesses, individuals, webmasters, etc. The TexShare online collection includes materials that have been published via a rigorous editorial process. You are still online, but you are no longer just on the Internet. You are in a library.

4. Internet pages are often cluttered with advertisements, or contain annoying

"pop up" ads.

The TexShare Databases are absolutely commercial free.

3. TexShare brings you articles from publications people know and recognize.

Find full-text recent and archived articles from major newspapers, magazines and journals, such as The Austin-American Statesman, Texas Monthly and Library Trends. These sources can be easily cited for research purposes. TexShare saves time by only retrieving pertinent and accurate information.

2. Indexing is poor on the World Wide Web. Searches are like trying to find a needle

in a haystack.

Typing a word in most of the leading commercial search engines available today results in thousands of Web pages, many of which are completely irrelevant. The TexShare online collection retains a comprehensive and concisely indexed set of research materials.

1. Added features enhance searching and research capabilities.

Each individual resource in TexShare has links to select features that add value to your information search. Send e-mails of search results with a few clicks, read research and citation guides, save a list of favorite content, or set the search screen to different languages.
