Welcome to Math 1Policy Sheet--Fall 2010Materials: Items that should be brought to class daily:AgendaMath NotebookTextbookPencil/Pen/HighlighterCalculatorAlthough all quizzes and tests must be done in pencil, a pen or colored pencil/highlighter may be required. A scientific calculator is required every day. The Texas Instruments 30X-IIS is the required model. (GRAPHING CALCULATORS are NOT allowed in Math I). Some tests and quizzes may not allow the use of any calculator. When purchasing a calculator, be sure to get the correct model.Textbook: McDougal Littell Math I: This textbook is the property of Walton High School. You will be assessed a replacement fee for loss of the textbook or a damage fee for any abuse of the textbook. The book costs approximately $70. The textbook can be accessed online at activate.. The activation code for Math I is 2553876-10. NotebookIt is strongly recommended that all assignments, quizzes, tests, class notes and materials be kept in a loose-leaf notebook. You should have the following dividers for your notebook: “Notes/Warm-ups”, “Homework/Classwork”, “Quizzes/Tests”. The first page in your notebook should be your current syllabus.Grading Policy: Students who do not pass Math IA will not be allowed to go on to Math IB second semester. Students who do not pass both Math IA and Math IB will not be allowed to proceed to a sophomore homeroom next fall.Tests: 50%Quizzes: 20%Classwork/Homework: 15%FINAL EXAM: 15%Warm-Up:Each day you will be given a warm-up exercise to begin class. You are responsible for completing these during the first 5-10 minutes of class. The warm-ups may be collected and graded as classwork.Classwork/Homework:Classwork or Homework may be collected and graded for either completion or accuracy. Homework is to be labeled with name, date assigned, page number, and problem numbers. It is to be kept neatly and chronologically in your math notebook. Quizzes:Scheduled quiz dates are on the syllabus. Pop quizzes may be given at the teacher’s discretion. Missed quizzes may not be made up. However, the test grade for that unit will be used for the missed quiz(zes) grades in that unit. Tests:Tests will be given on TUESDAYS and FRIDAYS. If you are absent the day before a test, you are still expected to take the test with the rest of the class on test day. A test missed due to successive absences will need to be made up BEFORE the next scheduled test or a grade of zero will be given. It is your responsibility to make arrangements with your teacher to make up a missed test. A comprehensive FINAL EXAM is given at the end of the semester.Extra Help:Extra Help is available from all Math 1 teachers either before or after school. If you are unable to see your teacher during his/her time, you may see any other Math 1 teacher.
