Principal Message to Parents - YRDSB

Dear Parents, Guardians and Families, Thank you so much for supporting our Student Led Conferences and teacher interviews. It is very important that we work together to increase student achievement and the well-being of our students. Valuable information is shared at this time and students are involved in their goal setting and recognizing the next steps for their learning and learning skills. Their hard work and perseverance will serve them well throughout life and we are working to instill students with the grit they need for ongoing learning challenges. Thank you also for supporting the clothing donation. This School Council and ECO initiative raises some needed funds and keeps textile materials out of landfills. Families were very supportive in cleaning out closets and giving up clothing that had been outgrown. Great job everyone!Thank you for continuing to support the fundraising activities that are happening here at the school and the ones being promoted by our School Council. The money raised through the pizza lunches and the in-school popcorn and frozen yogurt sales all goes back to supporting programs for the students at the school. Over this past year, $11 000 was spent for author’s visits, the one-week dance choreographer, an interactive drumming presentation, 3 days of Aussie X programs for sports and mindfulness, a number of Scientist in the Schools classroom programs, two art programs for junior students, Mathletics – a web based technology program to support math learn for students at home and school, and the chess program. This is not an exhaustive list of all activities and events that happened but these are the highlights that are financed specifically through your continued support. School Council funds have been used for the library renewal project – which is ongoing, purchasing many new computers and technology for the school through YRDSB cost sharing, supporting transportation and supply teacher cost so students can attend sporting events with their coaches, purchasing new curtains for the stage and a new athletic tent for events, funds provided for classrooms to enhance materials and craft supplies, purchasing some music instruments, and supporting the parent night for math learning. There is so much that is happening in the school and so many partners involved in ensuring that our students are able to receive enhanced programs and activities. Please consider how you might further support the School Council as we are always looking for volunteers and members. It is important that voices are heard and that the community is knowing what money is spent on and what is happening for students. The next School Council meeting is Thursday December 1 at 6:30 in the school library. All are welcome! This year we are fundraising again so that we can again offer a variety of programs for all the students in our school. In addition, we are also looking to raise some additional funds for our music program, gym equipment and new mats, to support some graduation costs, and to offset costs related to bussing and daytrips for students. When you see fundraising requests coming home, please consider where the money is spent and know that we really appreciate your support. If you have any ideas for fundraising, please share as we are always looking for new options. Thank you!Sincerely, Mrs. Caswell, Principal ................
