Welcome to the Patriot Guard, and thank you for stepping up

Welcome to the Patriot Guard, and thank you for stepping up.

We don’t ask for money for dues, we are not a club, we don't have colors (we do have patches you can buy, but that is all they are, patches and are not required), we don’t even make you login to the Minnesota website. You don't need a motorcycle or be a veteran (only about 50% are veterans). We are just a group of patriotic people that appreciate the military and what they do for us. Only do what you can, when you can, we all have families and know they come first. There are no requirements other than to show honor and respect to the people defending our freedoms and a 3’ X 5’ flag and pole which can be purchased at stores like Fleet Farm, Menards, or most stores. If you ride a bike, a flag mount is NOT necessary we do not fly flags over 20" x 20" at any speed over 35 mph.

You will hear us called the Minnesota Patriot Guard or the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR), we are both in the same. The national Patriot Guard Riders has about 209,000 members of which you are now a part of. Included in the number of the Nat'l headcount, 5,700 are Minnesotans which we call the Minnesota Patriot Guard (MNPG). Due to the shear size of the organization in the whole, you could imagine how difficult it would be to do local organizing across the whole nation or even just Minnesota. So each state has a group of volunteer leadership that does the organizing locally. The Minnesota Patriot Guard has the state divided into 20 sectors, you are in the NW Metro Sector. Each sector has a ride captain, My name is Tim Leonhardt, I am your ride captain. My email address is metronw@.

Our sector has ARC's (Assistant Ride Captains) Mike McDonough, Joe Egan, Carrie Wahl, Jack Foster, and Dan Wilkenson. The ARC's run a lot of the missions and are invaluable. All of our email addresses can be found on the MN webpage on the Sector/Contacts page: under the Metro NW section.

We communicate two ways:

• Email, which I send out often to keep the members informed of missions and events. These emails are sent to give you information and there is no need to reply. We also send out a newsletter every Wednesday evening.

• Webpage Calendars, check the calendars often for missions and events, especially just before you head out to something in case it has changed at the last minute at

Please, feel free to browse through the many pages of the webpage, especially the Member Documents at it has a lot of information for you about us. The only caution I have is when you get to the "Letters & Photo's" area where the letters from Families that have touch our lives and we have touched theirs. I usually tear up long before I can read them all.

As you do missions you will find that good people like yourself make up the MN Patriot Guard. You will meet Executives, Bikers, line workers, accountants, real estate brokers, and many other good ordinary people that have extra-ordinary patriotic hearts standing along side you at the missions.

Some missions are called honor missions, these are sad, emotional, and the worst to do because they are funerals.

Send-offs are missions that we show our support to both the soldier and their family. This is an important time, they are both wondering why they are doing what they are about to do. Us there shows them that we the people do know what they are doing for us, and that we appreciate it.

Welcome Homes are missions that are the best, Standing on a flag line with families that are waiting for their soldier is so great, seeing their soldier get off the bus and being greeted by their family is something you will never forget.

We the Patriot Guard will only use the email address you gave us to keep you informed on Patriot Guard business. If at anytime you want off this email list just contact me or send an email to the address at the bottom of the emails you receive.

It is important to note that while representing or appearing to represent the Patriot Guard we have no political or religious views or opinions, we are not for or against any war, we only support the soldiers that stepped up to defend our freedoms as a nation. Because of our good relationship with the military we must remain neutral on all political or religious views and policies. Another thing to know is that we do not solicit for mission attendance (we don't ask if we can come), we only consider missions if ask by a immediate family member or the military.

For more on what to expect when attending a mission go to this link:

If you haven't done so yet, you should also sign up on the Patriot Guard National site at

Thanks again for stepping up to do the right thing,

Tim
