Position Description: This job posting describes a full-time, professional position. Work will be primarily done remotely, with occasional visits in offices in downtown Boston. The Staff Accountant is responsible for payroll, accounts payable, and some journal entries. Maintains a complete audit and posting trail for all payments or cash received, and transmits complete, necessary data to each accounting function as required. The staff accountant will work closely with Controller in meeting Accounts Payable, Payroll and monthly close deadlines, preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting all external audits. Positive, eager to learn and team-oriented work ethic is critical to this role.Responsibilities May Include:This position is a valuable part of Commonwealth Corporation’s Finance Department located in Boston, MA. This position will report to the Controller. Specific responsibilities include:Responsible for all payroll and accounts payable (AP) functionsPrepares periodic journal entries, reports and analyses as required by the Controller for general ledger posting.Posts all accounts payable invoices accurately, prepares all AP documentation for review and approval and ensures checks and electronic payments are issued based on bi-weekly schedule. Problem solves all AP issues and comes up with solutions to prevent them in the future.. Maintains all insurance, utility, rent and lease monthlypayments. Prepares yearly 1099 forms and issues to recipients following IRS guidelines and deadlines.Assist with general ledger entries for the monthly/quarterly/yearly close, including accrual entries.Provides the requested AP and Payroll documents or analysis for annual audit.Supports finance department with other various projects and tasks as necessary (i.e. CTHRU yearly filings).Other ad hoc accounting duties to support the Finance teamOther duties as assigned.Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Include:Must have collaborative, helpful orientation dealing with all internal personnel of Finance and Commonwealth Corporation staffKnowledge and or interest in navigating technology to improve productivity and implement efficiencies. Must be able to prioritize, especially at peak periods; or know when it is necessary to confirm priorities with Controller.Detail-oriented with focus on accuracy. Ability to check own work prior to submitting to Controller.Proficiency with Excel, and Microsoft Office Systems requiredExpected to willingly learn new general ledger system components and reporting, focusing on automation.Willingness and ability to perform day-to-day fiscal activities.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, complete work accurately, and meet deadlines.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Self-motivated, independent, and pro-actively looks to take on new tasks and projects.Minimum QualificationsDegree in Accounting, or related major.3+ years of professional experience in a related role, non-profit background preferred. Well organized and dependable, strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.Excellent and effective interpersonal and communication skills.Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Intermediate Excel is a requirement). 6.
