August 28, 1963: Martin Luther King and other civil rights leaders meet with JFK about the March for Jobs and Freedom on the Washington Mall. JFK met with the leaders before hand, but many historians argue that behind the scenes JFK was trying to prevent the rally for political reasons.

Martin Luther King Leads a Rally of 50,000 on Boston Common against segregated housing and in favor of integrated schools. With a strong and vibrant Black community and many universities, Boston was one center of civil rights activism.
