Abraham Thornton served in the 1st Battle of Bull Run. Later in life he served as Tax Collector in Etowah County for twelve years and wrote articles for The Gadsden Times. He lived for many years on Pollard Bend but later moved to East Gadsden where he lived until his death in 1932. Abe is buried in Forrest Cemetery. ................
