Jacksonville State University and Snead State Community College will receive funding from the U.S. Department of Education's No Child Left Behind Title II program to support professional development activities to improve teaching and learning.
The federal grants were announced Thursday by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.
JSU will receive $100,000 for the Alabama Math, Science & Technology Initiative. Snead State will receive $180,000 for Improving Physics and Chemistry in Secondary Education.

The funding is designed to help teachers in school districts identified as "high need," according to ACHE.
"There are so many success stories from the workshops and instruction that have been made available to K-12 teachers," said Elizabeth French, ACHE's director of institutional effectiveness and planning.
Last year, awards totaled $1,208,900.
JSU last year received funding for the physics and chemistry program.
"We are proud that our faculty (has) engaged in IMPACTSEED, as it provides teachers with innovation for introducing physics to so many students," said school President William Meehan. "It truly makes science as it should be, fun and educational."
