Pleading The Blood

Exodus 12:13 KJV And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

Leviticus 8:30 KJV And Moses took of the anointing oil, and of the blood which was upon the altar, and sprinkled it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon his sons' garments with him; and sanctified Aaron, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him.

I. INTRODUCTION--ORIGIN IN PENTECOSTAL CIRCLES

--This concept of pleading the blood of Jesus has its roots in the Pentecostal movement.

In fact, it would probably be looked at as one of our traditions.

One of those traditions that is necessary and important in continuing to uphold.

--When you began to read some of the books that give a historical account of the early Pentecostal movement in the early 1900's, you find scattered all through those accounts of people pleading the blood.

--One such incident is told in Cecil Robeck's book, Azusa Street Mission and Revival:

The Birth of the Global Pentecostal Movement.

There are stories told of people requesting William Seymour to come and pray for their healing.

He would "plead the blood" and they would be healed but they would invariably receive the Holy Ghost in the process.

--The blood of Jesus Christ is a counter agent to all that is corrupt and sinful in this world.

When there is not a blood covering, sin is free to corrupt and destroy whatever it can come close to.

--It needs to be an active part of our praying, our singing, our worship, and our preaching . . . it is one of the key elements in spiritual revival.

There must be the mindset of revival always in our minds.

II. CLAIM THE BLOOD

--We must claim that blood to be active in every aspect of our lives.

Psalms 19:13--14 KJV Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

[14] Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

--If the blood of Jesus Christ has been applied to your life then you have to trust in the mercy of God.

? Hide me in the blood. ? Keep me from unrighteousness. ? Forgive me of my presumptuous sins. ? Don't let wickedness have dominion over

me. ? Never let me step outside of the Laws of

God.

--To engage the blood means that it need never be far from your mind and heart.

A. As a Covering

Exodus 12:13 KJV And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

--There was a blood covering over the children of Israel that protected them from the death angel.

This kind of prayer needs to cover our homes and our possessions.

What is dedicated to God will be protected.

--This is pleading the blood of Jesus over every aspect of your life.

B. To Overcome the Accuser

--We need to plead the blood because of the accuser.

Revelation 12:10--11 KJV And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

[11] And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

--Overcomers . . . by the blood of the Lamb . . . and they word of their testimony.

C. To Receive Multiplied Grace and Mercy

--We need to plead the blood of Jesus so that the grace and mercy of God is activated constantly in our lives.

1 Peter 1:2 KJV Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

--One of the most difficult things to understand is that we cannot save ourselves.

No matter how well geared my performance may be . . . I will never be good enough to save myself.

That is why we need the multiplied mercy and grace of God.

D. To Gain Perfection

--We need to plead the blood so that we will become perfected in the presence of God.

Hebrews 13:20--21 KJV Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

[21] Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

--When we are doing His will, there is an incredible perfection that comes to every humble servant of the Lord.

E. To Have Boldness to Enter His Presence

--We need to plead the blood so that we can boldly enter into His presence.

Hebrews 10:19 KJV Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

--We are justified before God because of the work on Calvary.

F. To Purge Our Conscience of Dead Works

--We need to plead the blood to purge our conscience of dead works.

Hebrews 9:14 KJV How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

--The greatest spiritual battlefield is your mind!

That is why we have to plead the blood over our minds.

--Satan, the blood of Jesus is against you . . .

G. To Protect Us Against Spirits of Fear and Torment

--We need to plead the blood of Jesus so that we have the peace of God in our minds.

Colossians 1:20 KJV And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

--The enemy wants to put fear and torment in your mind so that he will be able to control you.

There is deliverance through the blood of Jesus Christ!

--The blood of Jesus Christ can remove guilt, shame, condemnation, and humiliation.

This is why the devil is an accuser.

He is constantly attempting to draw you into a dark hole of blackness because of something that is long in the past.

--Satan, the blood of Jesus is against you . . .

III. CONCLUSION--THE DEVIL CAN BRING NOTHING AGAINST US

--The work of Jesus Christ made it possible that the devil will have to nothing to bring against us in heaven.

2 Corinthians 5:19--21 KJV To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

[20] Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

[21] For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

--There is nothing that the devil will be able to say or do that will stand against the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

--Satan, the blood of Jesus is against you!
