ABSTRACT

Living arrangements with the family members play an important role in the life of the elderly. An unpleasant situation in the family creates a number of physical health and mental stress-related problems. An attempt was made in this study to find out the relation between the living arrangements and Parent-child relationship and depression level in 410 elderly, age varying from 60 years and above, living in rural area of Eastern Utter Pradesh (India). The sample (410 elderly respondents) was drawn by applying multistage random sampling technique from the different parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, a northern and most populous state of India. Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS Long Term) was used to measure the level of depression of these elderly people.
